"It's like The Karate Kid but with MMA"
Never Back Down was kind of cool. I had fun. It had fights and all that so that's cool. Plus it's the first big time movie that features MMA as the main subject.
The flick is like a remake of the Karate Kid. It's the MMA Kid. This kid moves to a new place where everyone is way richer then he is. Then these jerks pick on him using an exotic fighting style that trumps what he knows about brawling. He meets a mysterious teacher that hips him to the style so he can win a big tournament and snag the babe.
The kid that stars in the movie looked like Tom Cruise but with a Cindy Crawford beauty mark. He looked kind of pretty for a scrapper. More like a model. His name is Sean Faris. He was on this show that Maritza and me used to watched called Life As We Know It. That was a pretty good little program. I can't say that you should run out and see it or anything. Just that I enjoyed it.
I don't really think that there is a whole lot to say about this movie. It was fun. I don't know if I'd watch it again. I liked the fights. The characters where just like what you'd expect them to be like. It followed a really strict formula.
I think that they could have trimmed like 20 minutes off of the reel. Prolly that back story about the younger brother and his tennis career. I guess that they had to give them some reason to have to move to Florida. He got accepted to a prestigious tennis camp. I'm kind of a believer that shorter is better. Not in all cases but for a movie like this I'd just as soon get in, watch some, get in and get out. Know what I'm sayin?
The Karate Kid is kind of an emotional movie. For real, the first time that you saw it I know that you felt Daniel-sans pain. Come on. You did. This movie doesn't have that at all. They are all too pretty and all buffed out in their low-rise board shorts. It's lacking the something that the Kid had. Maybe it was just that I was younger and more prone to falling for silly movies. I should find a youth that saw this and ask him what they thought.
