"Hits the Target!"

Wow! This movie still gets me laughing every time I remember the scenes. IN BRUGES is a crime comedy in the same level as other greats like Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels but it also has the elements of 10 Things To Do in Denver When You’re Dead. Collin Farrell’s got great comedic timing and Brendan Gleeson is just as hilarious. I applaud the… writing which gives humor to the characters. It’s well-played and creates coolness out of simplicity. This one hits the target!

It’s a bit difficult to describe how funny this movie is because most of today’s comedy relies mostly on slapstick humor. This one’s got it too but it relies mostly on its dialogue, what the characters say to each other and how they insult one another is what makes this movie outrageous.

You have these two hitmen waiting in this stupid, boring town called Bruges, that town alone is a reason to laugh at.

The filmmakers emphasize on how funny the unfunny little town can be.

It’s got ancient buildings to sight see but Collin Farrell’s character knows that it can’t be enjoyed by fat tourists.

He’s been told that he’s in Bruges to spend his last days before he has to be killed and he wonders why can’t he be sent to the Bahamas in stead.

Collin Farrell is an actor who doesn’t get much respect mainly because of his party playboy life in the real world. Even Chris Rock once said that if you want to make a movie and want Russell Crowe to star in it but all you get is Collin Farrell… then wait!

But Collin’s performance in The New World and in this movie proves that he’s a talented actor who just needs to keep having good projects to better his skills.

Oscar caliber actor Ralph Fiennes as the boss who goes to Bruges to get his hands dirty and finish the job is surprisingly hilarious in this movie. He doesn’t mean to be but his character is written as this guy who’s so intimidating and serious, you can’t help but laugh when he gets so angry as if he’s about to turn into a hulk.

Anytime he gets angry he’d spur out curse words and smart-ass comments.

IN BRUGES is silly but effective. The story has some moments of reflection and heart-warming situation, epiphany that comes out of regret for how one has lived his life. Overall, it’s an entertaining movie and it definitely is in one of my list for all time favorite comedy films.
