"Whatever you do, don't stay in room 1408!"

Okay. I love Cusack. Always have, always will. And here's another okay. I screamed. Many, many times. But all in all, this movie is just "Okay". And I mean that in the best possible way.

The idea is there--haunted hotel writer, suddenly finds a hotel room that is haunted, has a lot to write about, we're scared. Yadda, yadda. My question is: with all that fancy paranormal equipment, why didn't he use it in the room in question!?! All he used was the blacklight...but not the other expensive looking gadgets...

This was a hard one to pull off. For one, Cusack was in it for the most part alone. This was a one-man show. And I know that's not easy.

But the story plot was so weird and twisty it could have been directed by David Lynch. And while I love him too, I don't mean that in a good way. Sometimes, a story shouldn't have to be so over the top to earn our affections, to earn our screams, to earn our sweaty hands and rapid heartbeat. What happened to good old storytelling? Are we just too complex of viewers that we demand such a convoluted work for entertainment? Or can our primal instincts of fight or flight be awakened with a simple, but bone chilling story line? No answers here. Just questions...
