Actually, I tripped onto this movie while reading about when the next Dark Knight trailer would be. I was surprised when I started reading about Will Smith's next big box office hit. When I saw it, I was taken by the story as well as the visuals. Seeing the "city that never sleeps" dead was probably one of the most spine tingling visuals I had ever seen on the big screen. Beginning to understand the turmoil and torture that Robert Neville (Smith) was going through being the last man on earth, almost made me forget that I was watching a vampire movie. (Just to clarify the "carnivorous beings" are in fact by definition, vampires, not zombies for those who thought otherwise) Then the vampiric side of the story started. Although a better adaptation of the blood sucking demons than 30 Days of Night (in my opinion), the story almost slid out of my interest, but not enough to make me dislike it. Overall, I Am Legend is a great movie, the visuals are spectacular, the acting is great (Smith portrays falling into madness in a almost humorous yet saddening way). The story is intelligent, and sophisticated, aside from a few minutes of Mel Gibson style preachyness, where we see and hear an argument over the exsistence of God, and the almost quick conclusion of the film. If your going to see a movie solely about vampires and their rage, maybe Legend isn't for you. But if your interested in the world of the "last man on earth" and what the struggles might be living in a dangerous situation with no one but your trusted canine companion, then I Am Legend is a movie worth seeing.
