| Some decent comedy skits and some entertaining moments with the musical guests. Oh, the dancers The Homewreckers are super-hot. | Foxworthy's monologue is semi-humorous at best and horrid at worst, some of the skits fall flat and the special features are a bore as well. |
Well, Jeff Foxworthy has another addition to his "You know you're a redneck if..." canon. You KNOW you're a redneck if you watch this show. That doesn't necessarily mean you HAVE to be a redneck to enjoy it... but it certainly doesn't hurt.
This 10-episode series (I haven't found if it was renewed or not, doubt it...) is filled with a mixed bag of Foxworthy's opening monologue, a few comedy skits, Foxworthy's Redneck Word of the Week (another running gag from his stand-up) a musical performance from a different person/group and some Q&A from the audience afterwards. I'm not a big country fan, but even I've heard of some of the musical guests like recent stars Trace Adkins, Sara Evans and the gorgeous group The Wreckers (Michelle Branch. Damn...) along with country legends Hank Williams Jr. and Kenny Rogers. The musical guests also play along in most of the skits as well.
Most of the skits are rather entertaining with most of them featuring normal situations flipped around in a redneck fashion. While most will bring a smile to your face, none are laugh-out-loud funny at all, and some are much worse than that. The worst part of the show, though, is Foxworthy's monologue. The monologue is just filled with either rehashed old jokes (most of which weren't that funny the first time) or new jokes that aren't funny the first time either. Sure, the monologue doesn't last too long, maybe four or five minutes at best, but it can get pretty damn boring.
We get a few different features here for your viewing pleasure. The Bloopers are about seven minutes long and about six of them aren't worth watching at all. Most of the bloopers are just Foxworthy not being able to button his cuffs or put on a microphone or similar wardrobe malfunctions. Blah.
Best of Jeff's Monologue's is broken down into four segments and it's misleading as hell. It's not the "best" of his monologues, it's just four of his monologues from the show, set apart from the rest of the show. Who friggin cares. We already saw these. What's the point? Beats me... Anyway, the four monologues run about 15 minutes long, if you really care.
Behind the Scenes is broken down into 21 different segments. These segments are mabye two minutes long, three tops. Most of them are just bits from rehearsals and maybe some old stories thrown in, maybe fooling around with the musical guests and so on. They do have this semi-interesting three-part one where two of the improv actors have a seemingly genuine argument, but then it gets all flakey/fakey and yeah. Most of these bits aren't that funny or interesting.
The Homewreckers is next and they feature each of the eight girls, for a few minutes each, giving us their background and their thoughts about the show. They've got skills, folks. The whole thing is about 12 minutes long and worth seeing, for the guys especially.
Fitness With the Cast is the last one and they've broken this down as well. There are three parts of Shane and Peter at the Gym and two parts of Pilates with Brooke and Sara. It's only impressive in how severely unfunny these all are. They're altogether a little longer than 10 minutes and I would advise you to skip it.
If you're a fan of country music and country-ish humor, than this is certainly the show for you. It's the complete package for your redneck entertainment needs. The only thing they don't have on this show are NASCAR race updates or something... However, if you're not of any of these persuasions, I doubt you'll find much entertainment out of Foxworthy's Big Night Out at all.
