"The more current AFV DVDs are more amusing."

The more current AFV DVDs are more amusing. The Saget episodes were dry and the special features consisted only of two bonus features. There could have been more.
For all you America's Funniest Home Video Fans there is now the America's Funniest Home Video: The Best of Kids and Animals three disc box set.

After sixteen seasons the show is still going strong. Who can't get enough of dogs peeing on a bride's gown, countless animals and kids kicking men in the groin, an elephant putting an ostrich in a headlock, cats running into walls and a snoring dog? The 3 disc set features episodes with former host Bob Saget and current host Tom Beregon. The difference in the style of the two becomes more apparent when watching all DVDs together. Saget brought the self loathing factor in his jokes, which wasn't all that amusing. His raunchy stand up prior to his hosting gig on AFV was better. Beregon is very enthusiastic. Enough said there.

BONUS EPISODE: 1997 $100,000 Season Finale
Saget guides us through the funniest clips of '97. At this point the self loathing bit is a little lighter, but the clips are more amusing than Saget. Only the majority of the clips aren't belly achers. They produce a giggle or two.

BONUS EPISODE: 2004 $100,000 Season Finale
Bergeron hosts the show of the season's funniest clip for 2004. Ten finalists are selected for the 100,000 grand prize which is awarded at the end of the show. The majority of these clips were really amusing.

The Look
The picture is in full screen. The episodes seem as clear as they were when aired on TV. The introduction style has changed from the older version with Saget. The newer version has a monkey hanging down and there are more animated additions over videos in the Beregon episodes. I actually like the newer version.

The Sound
The DVDs are in standard mono sound. The theme song is still the same. Each DVD sounds just as it did on TV. There wouldn't be any other way to hear the wacky sound effects on the AFV clips.

The Packaging
On the cover of the box set is a dog mid air. It has a blue jacket with white stars on it. Attached to the jacket is a red and blue cape. Beneath the dog is the title and beneath that is a kid's head cropped at the neck. He is looking up and licking the side of his mouth. On the back of the box are three separate disc summaries and bonus episode descriptions.

Saget had his moment, but I find the Beregon episodes to hold my attention more. They just are more amusing. If you are avid AFV fan then add this to your collection, but if you aren't then pass on America's Funniest Home Videos: The Best of Kids and Animals. Just catch an episode on TV.
