A graduate of the prestigious Yale School of Drama, Tom McCarthy began his show business career in the 1990's, appearing in episodes of shows like New York Undercover and Spin City. He would go on to play the recurring role of Kevin Riley on the series Boston Public, and make notable appearances in films like Meet the Parents, Flags of Our Fathers, and Goodnight and Good Luck, but McCarthy's acting career would take a back seat in 2003, when he wrote and directed the critically acclaimed independent film The Station Agent. Proving the film's success was more than beginners luck, he would go on to write and direct 2007's The Visitor, which met with similar praise from critics and audiences alike. In 2009, the writer wrote the story for the Disney Pixar film Up, which met with tremendous success, both at the box office and in critic's circles, earning McCarthy an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. ~ Cammila Albertson
