Nimród Antal (in Hungarian Antal Nimród, his given name is pronounced: Neemrode) was born 30 November 1973 in the United States, in Los Angeles, California from Hungarian parents.
In 1991 he moved to Hungary to study at the Hungarian Film Academy in Budapest because he wanted to be a cinematographer from the age of 14. Although he never graduated, he stayed on to work in the film and television industry.
In the 1990s Nimród Antal has been a highly successful director of music videos and television commercials in Hungary, and also in the Czech Republic. With the movie Kontroll (2003) which he wrote and directed, he gained numerous awards and quite a huge reputation not only in Hungary. The film earned him the Award of the Youth at the Cannes Film Festival and the Golden Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival.
In 2005, he moved back to Los Angeles to pursue success in Hollywood. His first American feature was Vacancy (2007), starring Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson. Its follow up, Armored (2009), with Laurence Fishburne, Matt Dillon, Jean Reno and Milo Ventimiglia from Heroes is scheduled to be released in September 2009.
Nimród Antal has also appeared in acting roles in numerous Hungarian films. In both András Salamon's Közel a szerelemhez (1999) and Balra a nap nyugszik (2000), directed by András Fésös he had major supporting parts. In July 2009 it has been confirmed by After Robert Rodriguez that Nimród Antal is set to direct Predators for Troublemaker Studios and 20th Century Fox.
