Michael Bay: Review By MovieWiz001

If you're an extreme Bay hater, then I think you should read this. And if you want to argue about it... bring it on.

    SUPERB
Director, Michael Bay, the second greatest action movie director of all time (my opinion), right behind mastermind, John Woo. Each film this guy made are all Hollywood hits and we- er um- I love them all to death. Michael Bay so happens to be the most underrated director of all time and he doesn't give a flying crap! You hear all of these complaints that are extremely odd: "too many explosions.", "All of his films has something flying in the sunset, we must stop him!". *facepalm* have we forgotten that this guy is an action director? Too many explosions is never an excuse or a reason at all you'd hate this guy. Explosion and guns are the main icon in action movies and this guy gives you 3x the intensity of both of them. And putting helicopters in front of sunsets is not awful, it's epic. Michael Bay's vision of directory is marvelous and the dialogue and choreography of every single dramatic shot he captures is truly amazing which reminds me that I must admit to the some of you that hadn't noticed, so swallow your drink.... "Pearl Harbor" is my third favorite movie of all time. Now, I should explain "why?": The film is not too accurate to its actual event, but when it comes to Michael Bay doing a war movie... He can sure show the "War is Hell" metaphor. And I have no problem with the love story, because there are moments of loved ones departing from each other and as the female stays home, she sits and thinks about a million possibilities on what will be the outcome. Even the fact that the two main characters flew with their planes even though no one flew did not bother me, because that was the meaning of the film (p.s. this is a historical film, ya know?). Pushing the main characters aside, the historical accuracy is the only problem I have. I mean they did talk to the many people who were there that day, but I guess they didn't get enough. Oh well, that didn't stop it from being an amazing movie (super guilty pleasure).

Exactly... guilty pleasures that this guy has made. There are a lot of guilty pleasures I have, especially "My-"... Well, "MLP: FIS"... THERE I SAID IT (note: the TV show is actually partial comedy which is a huge difference from the past generations... the TV show also includes tons of innuendos). Anyway, even though Bay has a lot of haters, a lot of them agrees that the 1996 film, "The Rock" is his best film. I certainly love the movie, but the best that Bay has done his action in movies was the "Transformers" trilogy. Our latest huge Hollywood icon which has come to an end (I hope). People can't get enough of "Transformers" so much that they want a reboot! Even the Ragin reviewer from YT wants to see that happen. Never replace Mike in a series of his, because no matter who you are, you can never fit his shoes. You'll always know when something is a Michael Bay film with the light flares, explosions, 360 shots, and dramatic sunsets (fun fact: Zack Snyder was Bay's roommate in case you were wondering why the similar so motion sequences in their films). I have tried my best to meet this guy by going down to Chicago for "TF3", but I was a river side away from him. I could see him, but not a clear look on his face, so if I've gotten there earlier, I would have actually met him, because a lot of people did :(. I hope Bay makes another marvelous film near enough, so I can actually meet one of my idols to filmmaking. Oh and if you wanted to know my comment on his pissed off moods.... makes me laugh every time.

In honesty, I think Michael Bay would do more wonderful in dramas. I mean, he's awesome at action, but they always have some very odd comedy bits. So, do other genres, or use less comedic bits, because it nearly took over "TF2".

@moviewiz001 1 dislike is not bad. Bay is a very divisive direstor but as my mother always says, "to each his own"

As i said i am not a hater but i dont adore his work either. He is somewhere in between but the man knows his buisness and he is a great producer of films as well. Although i dont love everything he has put out i cant deny that i respect him for his efforts. The thing i love about Bay is that he is like a kid in a candy shop when it comes to action movies. For that i have respect.

@mattbierwagen I've been noticing that. Don't you remember the accident that happened? They were not aloud to do more so they can finish a certain clip or action of something. So, he recycled scenes from his least viral film, 'The Island'.

@skywise Yes, but remember, GWTW was her first major Hollywood film, and Gable was, along with Spencer Tracy, the top dog.

@dan1 It was among one of the first to use the word Damn altho Cavleclade and afew radio shows at the time had used it. Crazy to think of damn as a curse word while Doc Brown repeats several times in the final scenes of the "family" film Back to the Future.

  22. skywise

@ejk1 a little interesting fact about GWTW: Vivien Leigh worked for 125 days and received about $25,000. Clark Gable worked for 71 days and received over $120,000.

@skywise Yes, true. Though she deserved a lot worse than 'I don't give a damn', but it was the late 30's, saying damn was shocking enough for back then.

  24. skywise

@dan1 @thedude-abides isnt that why Gable's character dissed her in the end? Because she was a (I love this) @dan1 "a ho bag bitch"

Altho GWTW is not a civil war movie per se it uses the war as a back drop. I think it might be the only movie of its kind that doesnt have a single battle which sustains the non civil war argument but the war definatly plays into the movie in a pretty big way.

Just wanted to get in on an awesome convo.

@ejk1 That's fair enough. Of course some people will have disagreements, but at some point I think people need to stop letting personal feelings get in the way and learn to separate art from reality.

@thedude-abides Gone With the Wind is one of the best movies ever made, but it is not to everyone's taste. I remember reading a forum topic where you said Daniel Day Lewis's performance in There Will Be Blood is the greatest ever. Some people would take issue with that statement. Even in my Citizen Kane review I mentioned detractors and their reasons. These little disagreements are good for discourse and debate, and allow for a general consensus to be made. While Kane, Gone With the Wind, and other films are undeniably great, that doesn't necessarily mean that they are not flawed in the eyes of some moviegoers.
