Jacqueline Brookes was one of but a handful of American actors accepted for training in the 1950s by Britain's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. Her New York stage premiere occured in a 1955 off-Broadway production of Tiger at the Gates; not long afterward, she won a Theatre World award for her work in The Cretan Women. It would have been nice had Jacqueline Brookes always had film roles commensurate to the prestige of her stage work, but such was not the case with 1972's Werewolf of Washington. She was better served artistically in some of her later movies, which included Melvin and Howard (1980) and Without a Trace (1983). A stalwart of the Daytime Drama circuit, Jacqueline Brookes has appeared as Ursula Winthrop on The Secret Storm, Flora Perkins on A Time For Us, Beatrice Gordon on Another World and Sister Mary Joel on Ryan's Hope. ~ Hal Erickson
