David X. Cohen's educational background prepared him well for his pseudo-technical work on "Futurama." He holds a Master's degree in Theoretical Computer Science from U.C. Berkeley, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Physics from Harvard University, where he also served as President of the Harvard Lampoon humor magazine.
Though he had always planned on being a scientist, Cohen's love for writing and drawing cartoons led him to take leave from graduate school in order to write sample television scripts. He got his first break when he was brought on as a writer on two of the earliest episodes of MTV's hit animated series "Beavis and Butthead." He went on to spend five years as a writer for "The Simpsons," where he wrote numerous memorable episodes, including five "Treehouse of Horror" installments and "Lisa the Vegetarian," which won a Genesis Award and an Environmental Media Award. He has also won two Annie Awards and three Emmy® Awards, two for his work on "The Simpsons" and one for his work on "Futurama."
Originally from Englewood, NJ, Cohen now resides in Los Angeles, CA.
