Open Road Films has acquired all U.S. rights to Nightcrawlers, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo and written and directed by Dan Gilroy (previous writing credits include Real Steel, The Fall, The Bourne Legacy) in his directorial debut. The announcement was made today by Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films and Gary Michael Walters, CEO of Bold Films.

Nightcrawlers tells the story of a driven young man (Jake Gyllenhaal) who finds a home in the nocturnal world of freelance crime journalism in Los Angeles. Along with Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo, Bill Paxton and Riz Ahmed also star in the film.

Producers are Jennifer Fox, Tony Gilroy, Jake Gyllenhaal, Bold Films' Chairman Michel Litvak and David Lancaster. The film was financed by Bold Films, with Gary Michael Walters and Betsy Danbury serving as executive producers.

Said Tom Ortenberg,

"We are thrilled to re-team with Jake Gyllenhaal, with whom we shared great success on End of Watch. Dan Gilroy and Tony Gilroy are incredibly talented and have made a fantastic film and we couldn't be happier about adding Nightcrawlers to our slate."

According to Michel Litvak,

"We have watched Tom Ortenberg build a terrific marketing and distribution company from scratch over the last few years, and we are extremely delighted to finally find a film to work on together."

Sierra/Affinity is handling international sales on the project at the Cannes Film Festival.
