Zak Penn to Write and Direct X-Men Spin-Off

ComicMix recently spoke with writer-director Zak Penn about his new improv poker comedy The Grand as well as his writing duties on The Incredible Hulk. At the end of the interview, Penn talked about two new projects, one of which is writing and directing an X-Men spin-off film.

"It's like a young X-Men. It's a pretty cool idea, actually. I can't sell you the whole idea, but it involves a younger group of X-Men at the beginning." He also added that the film will be "getting back to the classic X-Men."

Penn also talked about a summer tentpole movie he's developing entitled Bermuda Triangle, a sci-fi film that will deal with that mysterious region.

"It is about the Bermuda Triangle and about all those kinds of mysteries, but he has a really cool take on it and it's like a big summer event movie."

The Grand is currently playing in Los Angeles and New York with an expansion to come later this month and The Incredible Hulk opens on June 13.

don't give the slightest f*ck who the f*ck will direct this (possibly sh*tty)film. We are gonna be served a f*ckin waste-of-money-film.Just another attempt by these no-talent directors to take our cash just by abusing a popular franchize. These guys have taken it pon themselves to be labelled as the ones who f*cked the xmen up!

guaranteed the xmen spinoff will be in development hell. dont read into it guys cuz we will prolly never see it. it will be scrapped or a strait to dvd or maybe they would change it to CGI. i doubt it will be live action. personally i think it sounds lame

Well like comics they can start all over and change anything nearly anytime they feel like it. Granted I liked the first xmen movie mainly cause well it was xmen, but the movies got lame real quick, and got awy from xmen in my opinon. they changed too much for my liking and got away from he origins of many of the characters. So this could be cool.

A younger X-Men? Who's going to be on team? Maybe since it's the "classic x-men" it'll be the original six: Xavier, cyclops, beast, jean, angel, and ice man. I don't know how angel would work since he was just introduced in x3, but he doesn't have to be included. All the others would work, even beast. It could be him before he became furry. I don't know about it just yet. Too many questions have yet to be answered. Bermuda triangel sounds cool.
