In a story from Variety Zachary Gordon will be playing the lovable loser Greg Heffley in Diary of a Wimpy Kid for Fox 2000.

The film is based on Jeff Kinney's best-selling illustrated novels. Currently, Chloe Moretz is negotiating for the female lead.

Directing this project is Thor Freudenthal.

The film chronicles the adventures of wisecracking middle school student Greg Heffley over the course of an academic year, as told through the young man's diary and hand-drawn cartoons.

Moretz will be "an intense student with a wry sense of humor who dresses in all black."
Rachel Harris (The Hangover) will play the mom of Greg Heffley.

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid stories are told in a half diary and half cartoon format. The screenplay was written by Jeff and Jackie Filgo, Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs.

The film starts shooting August 12 and is slated for an April 2 release.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid was released March 19th, 2010 and stars Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron, Rachael Harris, Steve Zahn, Connor Fielding, Owen Fielding, Devon Bostick, Chloe Moretz. The film is directed by Thor Freudenthal.
