Zac Efron to Star in Musical Update of Footloose
The film, about a town that bans dancing at their high school socials, has already been turned into a Broadway hit. Kenny Ortega, the man who directed Efron in the Disney Channel smash High School Musical, will also be directing him here. Efron will step into the shoes of Ren McCormack, a character originated by Kevin "Six Degrees" Bacon.
The film will mostly likely start shooting next year, right before the looming strikes paint the town black. Hairspray opens July 20th, 2007.
Hairspray was released July 20th, 2007 and stars John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, James Marsden, Queen Latifah, Brittany Snow, Zac Efron. The film is directed by Adam Shankman.
Footloose was released February 17th, 1984 and stars Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer, John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest, Chris Penn, Sarah Jessica Parker, John Laughlin, Elizabeth Gorcey. The film is directed by Herbert Ross.

whit..thank you. someone who actually has their head on striaght and in some cases i mean that literally. anyways. Footloose is a classic and you would pick zac efron to replace and become the next Kevin Bacon. Let me tell you it never will or should ever happen! KB is a stud, and I think it would almost insult him to be updated with such a panzy and weak actor. Just my thought on this subject.

Ok Zac Efron can definately NOT fill the shoes for the part of Ren in Footloose. He's SUCH an amateur! First of all, High School Musical is a sorry excuse for a musical, to say the least. I do have to say that Zac did well in Hairspray but can definately NOT play the part of Ren. Footloose deserves someone far better to play the role of Ren. Not an unexperienced Disney star.

Za"C" Efron, is bloody gawjuss and an amziing, actor/danca/singin. n of course they should re-do footloose, Especially with Zac. a mean he was fab not to mention amaziinly fittt in hairspray. Agree with kim91 bout lookin betta dark but id say dark brown like in hsm2 ratha than blackk. but hayy we cnt tell him what colour to diee his hair. So in love w/ him. Cant wait

you gotta try everything once footlose is a absolute classic but hay evolutionise . its big shoes to fill at least give the guy a chance. and all i can say for hairspray, it was brilliant deffonatly 10 out of 10
zak efron was lookin gawgus [looks better dark]
and the leading lady [no not john travolta] was beautiful and hay wot the heck johnnny boy didnt look bad for a middle aged man ina fat suit =]
