Zac Efron has is going from Disney Channel's "High School Musical" to New Line's Hairspray, says Variety.

New Line and director Adam Shankman have set Efron to play Link, the hunky heartthrob of "The Corny Collins Show," in the screen adaptation of the Broadway musical spawned by the John Waters film.

Hairspray was released July 20th, 2007 and stars John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, James Marsden, Queen Latifah, Brittany Snow, Zac Efron. The film is directed by Adam Shankman.
