Zac Efron and Justin Timberlake eye Memphis
Both actors traveled to the Big Apple to check out the show -- Zac Efron twice -- and are reportedly interested in the lead role of '50s-era radio DJ Huey Calhoun.
There has been no announcement about adapting Memphis as a movie, but a visit to the show by a famous Hollywood director sparked buzz about a potential film project.
Oliver Stone has been spotted taking in the musical this past spring, and his rep confirmed that the director met with one of the show's writers, Jon Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan, about doing a film adaptation.
Sources mention that Oliver Stone said he wants Justin Timberlake to star.

I disagree @avatarsequel. Both are great actors who have simply not had a real, defining moment - although, Timberlake is posed to shine in The Social Network, according to a few sources. I say pass the role to Timberlake - Efron, despite his apparent interest, does not need another musical on his resume.

I work on Memphis at the Shubert Theatre and it's true that both Justin and Zac have come to see the show. Zac has been there twice now the second time he brought Vanessa Hudgins. It's obvious that Justin would be a better choice for the role if the movie is decided to be made. Justin has the vocals to hit the notes of the song "Memphis Lives in Me," and not to mention can pull off the comedy needed like we all seen him do in many things like SNL. If Oliver Stone is to direct this he already wants Justin because we all know Zac is just a face to make teenage girls blush and could no way play this character to it's full potential. Justin can make this role really come alive and to top it off he's from Tennessee and has the accent. It would be a terrible decision to put Zac in this role because he's not talented enough. With Justin in the lead and maybe Beyonce or some other talented singer/actress will make this movie amazing just like our Broadway show is already. This movie will make people wanna see it more if Justin plays Huey because Zac will only bring in the teenage girls. Just like those crappy High School Musical movies and that other POS he did with Matt Perry. If we were to put him in the broadway version it would of course sell tickets but it will be wall to wall teenage girls cause they think he's cute not cause he's talented. In my opinion to make this movie a success if made Justin is the key. He expressed to all of us how much he loved the show but when Zac came he was so drunk he couldn't even speak while he took pictures with us stinking of alcohol then left with his entourage to hit a strip club where he spent thousands on strippers. Guess that's why he came a second time haha. If the movie is made it needs talent like Justin Timberlake to fulfill how great this show really is. Zac needs to just move past this project because he can't hold a candle to the talent that Justin Timberlake posseses. The movie needs a great director like Oliver Stone and I'm sure if Zac gets the role he will pass on the project cause he has already expressed he wants JT. Zac isn't muture enough to play Huey or even old enough. Chad Kimball plays Huey in our show and he also would be a better choice then Zac. He needs to just keep playing his Teeny Bopper Roles make his millions then leave the business cause like I been saying he's just a face for little girls to hang on their walls. We have all seen JT's movie talent it's a no brainer that he's the one for this role. And I'm hoping Zac comes again so I can say it to his face. But anyway Memphis the Musical is such an amazing show and for anyone who hasn't seen it I assure you that your missing out and if you have seen it I'm confident you want to see it again. Since we began rehearsals I knew we had a smash hit and that's why we are the 2010 Tony Awards Best Musical, Best Score, Best Book and Best Orchestra. So imagine if the movie is green lighted with Justin Timberlake in the lead I know for a fact it will be even better on the Silver Screen with Oliver Stone directing. Zac just step aside cause your not old enough, funny enough, talented enough, or able to play the amazing role of Huey Calhoun. You can play Frank Dryer the owner of Dryers Grocery Store if you want to be in the movie that much. Hockadoooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
