Awesome news -- lets just hope it's better than the original.

@moviefreak97 Hmm...I see what he's saying there. That HE treated the movie like a reboot, but I'm betting Fox didn't, lol.

@shuabert Ok, disregard everything I've said prior to this. Here's Vaughn's interview where he states that First Class IS in fact a reboot, but he's keeping in tone everything that worked in the previous films instead of simply re-inventing it.

@moviefreak97 Yeah, I remember him saying that too, but that has nothing to do with with Vaughn's films. Besides, I think he just meant that as in, we're not going to be tied down by the events of the first film; Logan is in Japan and we're telling that story.

@shuabert I'm not positive about this, but I'm pretty sure Darren Aronofsky, before he left that is, stated that The Wolverine would completely disregard Origins and be its own movie.

And I do agree about continuity errors. They annoy the hell outta me too. But if they make the movie better, I'll take it :)

@moviefreak97 Of course. All of those are why I said First Class messed up the continuity in the first place and should have just been treated as a reboot. However, those (with the exception of the Charles/Mystique relationship) are relatively minor compared to things that physically don't fit in a timeline.

Still, I have beef with the idea that they would pick and choose what is canon and what isn't. Where did you hear they're treating it like that? You can't ignore part of a movie and not the rest, can you? That seems like cheating, lol.

(I'm not bothered at all by Hank being in regular human form in X-2, because throughout the comics there have been several times when he has changed back and forth between forms. Hell, even Xavier has been in and out of his chair at different periods.)

@shuabert Well, they're not throwing out Last Stand altogether, just the prologue and that brief scene with Moira. Still, there were continuity errors with the first two as well, such as Hank building Cerebro in First Class when Xavier says that Magneto helped him build it in the first film, Hank appearing in his normal human form in X2, and Xavier's relationship with Mystique that isn't even hinted at in any film prior.

@moviefreak97 But unless they're throwing out Last Stand as well, and only keeping with the two Singer films (which is a possibility since he's a producer on Vaughn's) they've already contradicted that, because Last Stand shows Charles and Eric recruiting Jean together, which doesn't make sense given that they part ways at the end of First Class. Not to mention that if The Last Stand is supposed to fit some 40 years after First Class, Moira McTaggart is the same age and is a scientist instead of a CIA agent.

@shuabert I'm pretty sure they'll try and keep the continuity pretty solid with the trilogy (aside from what was already disregarded in First Class), but not with Origins, which I believe is being ignored completely.

Really excited to see what comes of this :)

Dude, Michael Fassbender was the sh*t in First Class. I love him as Magneto, and as an overall actor! More Magneto please!!!

My only question would be whether they're still trying to tie the continuity of the older films with Vaughn's. There were enough gaps in First Class alone that messed up the continuity, and it could only get more convoluted with another sequel set roughly the same time as X-Men Origins. Remember, Xavier was portrayed by Patrick Stewart in 1979 In XMO:W, so a movie set some seven years earlier would have to feature a pretty different-looking Xavier than the one in First Class if we're to believe McAvoy becomes Stewart in that short a time. Hopefully the sequel features him going bald.

@gandoff2169 i am right there with you. I am a die hard X Men fan so i get where you are coming from but i believe there is serious potential here. Especially since they are gathering the same team that made the First class. Since it was such a hit i suspect they wil spend more money. I have high hopes but at the same time i expect nothing. Expect nothing and you wont be disapointed.

I also like @shuabert idea but only time will tell.

As a comic book fan, I don't know if I want to see a direct sequel to X-men: First Class. I liked the movie allot. But with so many comic book misses such as characters used for the story, I would be afraid as a X-men comic fan, how they would do a sequel.

Set in the 70s, right? Vaughn said he wanted to do sequels set ten years apart. Maybe this one will have something to do with the end of the Vietnam war, like the last one focused on the Cold War and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
