X-Men: First Class Photo Featuring Lucas Till as Havok

20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios took a huge misstep yesterday in releasing two domestic "destiny" character posters of Michael Fassbender's Magneto and James McAvoy's Professor X from X-Men: First Class. They've been called the worst posters released this year, and they have fans in an uproar. To help squelch the noise, the two studios have released yet another photo from the upcoming Marvel mutant prequel with the hopes that you'll think its cool and forget all about those images from yesterday, which featured the disembodied faces of Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy floating in the crotch area of their characters. The posters literally gave new meaning to "dick face". Here to help remedy: Check out an all-new image of Lucas Till as Cyclops' dad Havok setting the screen ablaze.

Lucas Till as Havok

X-Men: First Class was released June 3rd, 2011 and stars James McAvoy, Laurence Belcher, Michael Fassbender, Bill Milner, Kevin Bacon, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, Beth Goddard. The film is directed by Matthew Vaughn.

@ejk1 You really can't please fanboys (and I'm not referring specifically to you). Wolverine is far and away the most popular X-Men character, and the studio latched onto that. I'm pretty sure if they would have dialed it back fans would have been angry that there wasn't enough Wolverine in the films.

Also, I'd disagree with you on the claim that the films were all about Wolverine. I think the first was equally about Rogue, the second had a heavy focus on Nightcrawler, and the third was largely about Jean Grey. Wolverine was there to anchor all the other stories.

@daveactor7 - as much as Orange and I DONT get along, the above catastrophe isnt his fault. This is actually news (and total bullsh*t). I cant rightfully blame him as he is speculating on whether they will make him Scotts father, as it sounds like that part was already decided. No reason to fight when Im sure he probably agrees how HORRIBLE an idea this is.

@ejk1 Yeah, I believe that is how a lot of people felt. It was Wolverine: X-Men, Wolverine: X2: X-Men United, and Wolverine: X-Men: The Last Stand. By the time they did an origins tale, they just said f*ck it, let's phone it in and actually have Wolverine in the title, and have it be all about him again, completely. Only this time we put in the laziest effort yet :P (enter butchered and unrecognizable Deadpool).

@shuabert @iamfratson @dan1 I like X2, but hate the series as a whole. It has basically been the Wolverines miniseries, not a real X-Men series. I mean come on, look at what they did to Cyclops. Three films of the leader of the X-Men being treated like garbage only to be unceremoniously killed off-screen, and don't give me the "James Marsden went to do Superman Returns, so they had no choice" BS. With the little that Marsden was allowed to do in the first two films, he was easily replaceable.

Yeah, X2 is a fantastic movie. I like the first film a lot too. What was disappointing about The Last Stand was that they tried to tell too many stories and Ratner couldn't juggle them all like Singer could, and was disappointing about Origins was that they wasted an opportunity to tell a really interesting story about a really interesting character. But even those films I don't hate. They're fine as mindless fun. I also really love the first two of Sam Raimi's SpiderMan films, and I even like DareDevil more than most people.

@dan1 - X2 is hands down the best. The beginning when they storm the Mansion, ridiculous. Best Wolverine scene, IMO, out of all the movies so far.

@ejk1 - nicely put. And I agree. On all counts.

Since the continuity is already screwed, I am taking each film for what it easy. Almost like looking at it as a new series to "reimage" the series, no matter how off/bad that reimaging can be at times.

And let's say down the road Marvel does get to make the X-Men movies proper, I still see X2: X-Men United holding up and being respectable. At least to me it always will be. I love the sh*t out of that movie.

It's funny, before I became a regular around here, or I should specify, before I became friends with @ejk1 and @comicbookfan, I lived in my ignorant little world and thought all the X-Men movies were alright (was more forgiving of Wolverine and X3 at least). I'm still ignorant lol, but I have come to understand a lot of the bothering that has gone on.

I'm fine with them changing things around. That's what an adaptation is supposed to do, give a filmmaker's take on the characters. Who wants a page to screen adaptation? I'll just read the books if that's the case.

@comicbookfan It's okay, dude, everyone has a brain fart from time to time :P

Speaking of farts, part of me hopes this film lands in the sh*tter, so that oh, say, five years from now Marvel can get to work on a proper X-Men film series. And please Marvel, remember the following for your next go round: no bullsh*t trilogy centering around one theme; villains MUST include Mr. Sinister, Apocalypse, Magneto, and MasterMold; Phoenix Saga? Only if the Shi'ar Empire is involved. There you go Marvel, a template to follow (one that should've been followed from the beginning), especially if this film tanks, which at this point has in my opinion a 50% chance of doing.

Wow, can't believe I did that. Epic fail on my part. What is wrong with me? lol
Well, my point still stands, they are twisting it all around. Corsair is his dad. grrr

@comicbookfan Cable is indeed Cyclops' son! Nathan Summers, born to Scott Summers (Cyclops) & Madelyne Pryor (Jean Grey's clone). He was infected with a techno-organic virus by Apocalypse and consequently sent into the future in the hopes of being cured. Though he was never able to kill the virus, he used his mental telekinesis to constantly keep the virus in check. He returned back to the present Marvel universe as a seasoned war veteran, some 15 years older than his father! (Time travel, never making things simple! :)

Though that reads somewhat convoluted, it still makes a lot more sense than simply changing a well known character, Havok, Cyclops' brother, into his damned father! Just because the producers and writers have so badly screwed with their own continuity!!

I have stated my opinions on this matter in many posts, so I won't rehash them here, suffice it to say, that I am so disappointed in this direction and am amazed at the lack of respect that is being shown to the characters of the comics, and to the fans...

Cyclops' dad is Cable. Havok is his brother. If they wanted to get Cyclops' dad, why didn't they just use Cable? OMG this is ridiculous how bad they are twisting characters, story, and backstories aroundd in the X-Men films, I'm sick of it.

  22. I AM FRATSON

Figured this is what would happen. I figured after X3 with Dark Phoenix that the whole Shi'Arr story arc would never come to pass. Now that we see Havok is the dad, def ruled out for any future story.

Scott's brother is his dad. Some how that doesn't seem right

Why couldn't he just introduce the father instead of Havok. This film sounds like too much a failure to me, but I'll still watch it despite the mistakes. who knows it might be better than the third.

The cast is solid and so is the director. Knowing Alex Summers as Havok (Scott's lil bro) is now being tossed into the world of parenthood... makes me wonder one thing... Is the Summers family from the south? I suppose he could be Scott's dad AND brother if he-- ew, nevermind...

I could care less about the movie posters myself, I don't think they really have any impact on a film anyway. As long as the movie is great, that's all I care about!
