X-Men: First Class earns $3.4 million in midnight screenings
It isn't known how many screens X-Men: First Class played in at midnight last night, although it opens in 3,641 theaters nationwide starting today. Some have tracked X-Men: First Class earnings at between $48 and $55 million this weekend, while others believe it could gross north of $60 million. Since X-Men: First Class took in slightly more than Thor at midnight, it may very well replicate Thor's $65.7 million opening weekend, or come close to it.
X-Men: First Class also opened in several international territories on Wednesday, although international box office numbers have not been made available yet.
Be sure to check back on Sunday for the full box office numbers from X-Men: First Class and the rest of the movies currently playing in theaters.
X-Men: First Class was released June 3rd, 2011 and stars James McAvoy, Laurence Belcher, Michael Fassbender, Bill Milner, Kevin Bacon, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, Beth Goddard. The film is directed by Matthew Vaughn.

K-Man....no offense dude but its hard to take critique advice on dialog from a guy with a picture of "THIS IS SPARTA" (3 words), and "TONIGHT WE DINE IN HELL" (5 words) guy for a avatar rep. I'm not defending X-Men FC because I haven't seen it, but solid critics like Roeper and McCarthy are giving it solid ratings based on the acting and dialog...who should I believe? Look at 300, I loved the cheesy dialog and mantastic impossible bullsh*t in that movie, based on your pic I assume you did too...sorry man but I think your opinion has fallen prey to the often common high expectations we fanboys can muster before seeing one of these flicks for what it is. I'm guilty sometimes too, live and learn.

@kon el that's not what I was saying. I was asking if Vaughn borrowed the footage from xmen or did he just shoot a new one frame for frame as the footage from xmen.

@superman81 Can't expect to use the same people after 11 years mate

Maybe so but Vaughn said he wasn't following the previous films. Also was the opening scene from Xmen the same one FC used when they showed Erik bend the gate? It looked frame for frame the same but the kid looked different.
12 months agoby @superman81Flag
Bawnian©-Dexeus
@superman81 Well, Erik was more of the cover name. And the previous movies used the name Erik so, less confusion perhaps?

@kon-el yea I guess it just look more like an appendage in the movie. I wonder why Marvel has never used Max Eisenhardt as Magneto name.

I only found one problem with the film and that was Magneto helmet at the end. Did that annoy anyone else think the added ant feelers was a little much? I mean the helmet was great the way it was. Just add the color and leave it alone. They should have used that helmet in Singers films instead of what singer had Ian wear. The one singer had Ian wear was god awful.

@superman81 The Helmet here stayed true to the comics. Hence the added art

@tropicthunder217 - I enjoyed the first two......
@bawnian-dexeus - I thought about it...but then I realized it wouldn't be much of a review if I was just bitching about the film. I honestly dont have a lot to say that is really, really good about that film.....so better to bitch about it here, where it will be old news in one day, than in a review.

@k-man judging from what you want from a movie it seems you want a 5 hour film. all your points are flawed. if you applied this nitpicking to every film you wouldn't enjoy any films.

*MAJOR SPOILERS*
A few reason why I thought this film was a disappointment.
@tropicthunder217 - Again, its opinion.....but I found the drama to be hardly that.....for example, if anyone actually found it to be dramatic when Angel decided to "switch sides" after 10 minutes of being an X-Men so that she could suddenly go from "helping save the world" to miraculously wanted to help take it over, well then you need to work on that little thing we call an attention span. The film was full to the brim of "who gives a sh*t" moments like that.....and the reason why we didn't give a sh*t is because they weren't nearly developed enough for us (or at least me and my friends) to care.
The action was boring, few and far between and, for the most part, unmotivated (except for the end when the x-men tried to stop the submarine). The dialogue was atrocious.....and I sincerely mean that. The majority of the dialogue wasn't even anything interesting or intelligent, it was one 5 word sentence after another, slapping the audience in the face with some of the dumbest things I've heard in months, flat out telling the audience what they need to know instead of letting them figure it out for themselves. Hell, we were even lucky enough to get what is undoubtably the worst line of the year ( and waaaayyy more than once, too)...... "Beast, remember MUTANT AND PROUD!!!"
BAHAHAHAHA!!!! If you dont think that is idiotic then you need to seriously question what you consider bad dialogue!"
The special effects were...well....lets just say "unaspiring". The one that sticks out most in my head is when Banshee is flying around the school grounds.....I own video games that look more real than that! In fact, it was so bad that my friend next to me looked over and asked "what the f*ck was that? That looks terrible!"
And the storytelling was more rushed than anything I've seen in the last two years! People were jumping around and events were happening (for no reason) so fast that it became laughable... and the only thing I could ask myself is......WHY????
For example, the entire film mystique was complaining about how she didn't fit in and just wanted to look "Normal"....but when Beast presents a "cure" 20 minutes later she is gung-ho about "not hiding and just being who they really are".... all because Magneto preaches one line of dialogue. Think about that, you spend your ENTIRE life pretending to look like someone else because you are embarrassed of what you look like but because some guy, who you basically picked up off the street (or out of an ocean, whichever), says you "shouldn't have to pretend", suddenly your entire demeanor changes? Give me a break!
Or how about the fight at the end between Banshee, Havok, Beast, Angel and Azazel? So let me get this straight, Angel decides to attack Banshee and Havok, who only one day earlier was dancing in the CIA building, partying and feeling excepted together.....but she suddenly feels the urge to randomly murder them because some jack-ass named Sabastian Shaw, who she has known for maybe 24 hours, said to???
Not only that, but how about when Magneto is giving his little speech on the beach and they are all just standing next to each other like nothing just happened!! Angel got her wings blown off by Havok and Azazel has 2 inch claw marks in his chest from Beast....but hey...lets just take a time-out and be friends while Magneto says a few words. Are you f*cking kidding me?
I could go on and on and on.....but why bother.

@k-man -haha I wrote one sentence and you said I was defensive...what does two full paragraphs entail ? And opinions usually involve " I think.." or "I feel..." You may want to master the difference between your opinion and trying to pass off your personal feelings as absolute facts... then talk to me about whatever you want.

This was my favorite Marvel movie of all time next to Iron Man. This is what Singer should have done with xmen. Fassbender and McAvoy were terrific. Kudos to Kevin Bacon as well. He was awesome as Shaw. My one and only gripe was with Magneto helmet at the end. Looks like they added ant feelers. Can't wait for part 2. Can Vaughn just direct all comic movies from now on.

@k-man "If I was still in middle or high school and didn't have a clue what actually makes good drama, action, cinematography, dialogue, special effect or storytelling, then I would probably love this movie too". LOL sorry sir but if this movie to you has none of that then clearly your the one who has no idea what makes a good drama, action, cinematography, dialogue, special effect or storytelling.

Glad this is going off to a good start, I hope it cracks over the $70 million mark, it should anyway, Xmen is way more popular than Thor. Also on another note, I don't care about what anyone says about the last 2 Xmen movies, yes Xmen Origins Wolverine was just alright, but I really Xmen the last stand, I thought it was more of an action extravaganza, than the first 2.

@Brizzy - That's fine, that's their opinion, which they are entitled to.
@highcaliberinc - BIG LETTERS put emphasis on a particular word, Einstein. I love how defensive you are already getting just because I said the movie was a disappointment....which it was.....(are you going to cry that I used too many periods, too??)
Its called opinions, which like I said above, everyone is entitled to. If I was still in middle or high school and didn't have a clue what actually makes good drama, action, cinematography, dialogue, special effect or storytelling, then I would probably love this movie too. But seeing how as though that isn't the case......it was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT.

This movie was a HUGE disappointment. Story was weak, acting was poor (except for Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy, who were great), Special effects were, at times, laughable, character and story development was rushed all to hell and the action was far from mindblowing.
This film was not even REMOTELY close to X1 or X2......I'd say its somewhere around X3 and Origins: Wolverine, which isn't a compliment.
Everyone I saw the movie with felt the same way, so I'm not sure why it's getting such great reviews.
I wont say it was AWFUL.....but it sure wasn't great.
