Matthew Vaughn will not direct X-Men: Days of Future Past
20th Century Fox is said to have Bryan Singer on the top of their short list to replace the director. Bryan Singer and Matthew Vaughn are both still attached to produce, alongside Lauren Shuler Donner and screenwriter Simon Kinberg.
The Days of Future Past comic book story line takes place in an alternate future where mutants are hunted down by Sentinels. No concrete story details have been released for this sequel as of yet.
We reported in April that production will begin in January, after X-Men: First Class star Jennifer Lawrence wraps on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Matthew Vaughn is still planning on directing another movie for Fox, which may be Secret Service, an adaptation of Mark Millar's comic book series. Both the author and filmmaker have been developing the project, although it is not known when it will go into production.
X-Men: Days of Future Past comes to theaters July 18th, 2014 and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman. The film is directed by Bryan Singer.

@phatalphd But Cable and Bishop were not around at that point in the X Men story. Of course, FOX doesnt seem to care which characters appeared at any given point.

@crypt -- Magneto.
Same here! The scene where they showed off their powers, specifically.

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Which character was he again?
For me the lowlights were some of the "teen" parts. Kinda ridiculous.

@crypt -- Any scene with the spotlight on Michael Fassbender were "the better parts", for me.

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Yeah! X Men First Class' second half was way better than it's first half, I felt.

@crypt -- Same here! X-Men was decent, X2 was good, and "X-Men: First Class" was also decent. Better than some of it's parts.

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx - X Men 3 I felt was the second worst. I felt Origins was the worst. Still thought it was enjoyable, just not as much as the others. X Men 1 and 2, and First Class are great though.

This blows. I liked Singers X-Men movies but i LOVED Vaughn's First Class movie and i would much rather have him direct than Singer.

It's actually not half bad if Singer is coming back, it can be great.

And I'm bummed that Vaughn gave up Kick Ass 2 for this film, only to return for neither. I'd usually consider that a bit douchy, but again, I'm sure he has his reasons.

This obviously sucks, but I'm sure the guy had his reasons. I'm just bummed I won't be able to see his unique style paired with a better cinematographer and a wider budget (two of the few more pronounced flaws of the first film). Still, Singer is definitely talented enough to tackle this project and if Singer doesn't return to the director's chair, may I suggest Neil Blomkamp? He's a self-admitted fan of sci-fi, drama, and philosophy which would really work well with this particular arc. We haven't seen a lot from him, true, but risks can be taken on occasion and Elysium is wrapping up soon, so he should be rather available.

I'm not disappointed with Singer taking helm, I'm just disappointed with Vaughn. Didn't we just endure a headache to get him to direct it in the first place!?!

What sucks about this news is that this was the movie that Vaughn chose to do over Kick Ass 2, and now to hear that he's not doing the new X-Men movie, that is truly disappointing news. I really hope that whoever steps in does a good job. As Singer, yeah it would be cool if he came back. If for whatever reason he doesn't come back then they should bring someone in that will do the X-Men justice.

I have no problem with Singer taking over, as his X-Men movies were the best ones so far, and he was closely involved with First Class. If they bring in somebody else, it will likely be a bit of a disappointment (or if it's Ratner, a big disappointment.)

Yeah, bringing back the director of the second worst X Men film is a horrible idea... Still excited for this one though.

NOOO NOOO NOOO!
Mathew Vaugn's xmen first class was better than all 3 xmen movies. You want to bring Bryan Singer to ruin everything??? Very bad choice SMH -___-

I'm also assuming the studio wants this movie shotgunned production wise like the last film since its taking so long to get started. Vaughn probably doesn't want to rush through such an ambitious project like he did with the first film.

Give the rights back to Marvel, they can at least make something that is on the same level as The Avengers with Joss Whedon as creative consultant.

Darren Aronofsky. Now that would be one moody and trippy time traveling Days of Future Past. Which is kind of how I look upon the old storyline.

Huntsman
Why is everyone insulting Matthew Vaughn? Is he the best director in the world no, but he is a good one who has made some good films. Look at Layer Cake, Stardust, Kick Ass and X-Men First Class. None of them were bad films in fact all of them were good to great films. I really don't see what the problem people have with him
Bryan SInger did to a good job with is two X-Men films, but they weren't perfect. Still I don't think it's a good idea. They should go with someone new just not Matt Reeves. I mean what has the guy done really? The answer is nothing except Cloverfield which I think is a pile of sh*t. I don't know who Fox should go with, but they can find someone better then him.

Matthew Vaughn Im glad you won't be doing it because you are one sorry person and this is the same loon who claimed superhero films were dead and that his film was better the the dark knight and we know how that went
