X-Men 4 and 5 in Development, Deadpool Is an R Rated Comedy

Empire Magazine revealed new cast photos from X-Men: First Class in its latest issue, which we showed you just minutes ago. That same issue also features an interview with producer Lauren Shuler Donner, who reveals that X-Men 4 and X-Men 5 are currently in development, and that Deadpool has an R rated script packed full of comedy.

Apparently, X-Men: First Class is kicking off a series that will run congruent with the continuation of the original X-Men franchise, with X-Men 4 picking up and continuing the storyline of 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand. The storyline of that film will then lead directly into X-Men 5.

"We took the treatment to Fox and they love it... And X-Men 4 leads into X-Men 5."

The producer went onto talk about the long gestating Deadpool, which Lauren Shuler Donner claims has an R rated screenplay at this time. She is also calling it a "reboot" of the character we saw in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, though Ryan Reynolds is still set to reprise the role.

"It's a total reboot. We're either going to pretend that X-Men Origins: Wolverine didn't happen, or mock it, which he could do. It's insane, it's definitely comedy. But it's an R script, it's really irreverent and violent. Right away, we're out of the X-Men world. He's very involved, Ryan Reynolds. He's working with the writers on the screenplay and it is as much his as it is ours. I'm tellin' ya, it's true to the comic. You'll see all of them. You'll see Wade Wilson, the good-looking Ryan Reynolds! You'll see Deadpool in his costume and you'll see the cancer-scarred face. We're looking for a director."

Lauren Shuler Donner also had a bit of news on The Wolverine.

"It will have depth and a dramatic backbone. And yet there's more action in this one than in any one we've ever done. It's such a good script. We have the great Christopher McQuarrie writing and it's very true to the Japanese saga. This is Logan on his own..."

X-Men: Days of Future Past comes to theaters July 18th, 2014 and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman. The film is directed by Bryan Singer.

Deadpool is in development and stars Ryan Reynolds.

The Wolverine comes to theaters July 26th, 2013 and stars Hugh Jackman, Famke Janssen, Will Yun Lee, Brian Tee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima. The film is directed by James Mangold.

oh man this could be so good. Bryan Singer ain't doing sh*t, so they could get him back, and James Marsden and the chick who played Jean Grey aren't doing anything right now either, plus i mean Cyclops died off screen and her name is Pheonix for a reason, she should rise again u know?

don't bring Rogue back, but bring Kitty Pryde, Iceman and Colossus back. the team could be Wolverine, Kitty, Iceman, Colossus, Storm, bring Nightcrawler back somehow and then Jean and Scott. Maybe Angel but idk he can't really do much aside from look cool. Mr. Sinister could be the bad guy, or Apocalypse, but Apocalypse is a little far fetched to be a movie villain.

man i shouldn't get so excited for this crap, cuz i know none of that will happen.

@masta-chiefed Yeah, but IMO she was also the most bland and seemed most uncomfortable in her character. And yeah, I remember that Prof X was revealed to still be alive (at least his consciousness was), but his body was gone, right? So however they decided to bring him back they would have to get around that.

I like Halle Berry as Storm. No need to recast.

@shuabert at the end of X3 Prof X is already back... I can't agree with you on Halle Berry. Out of every actor involved she was by far the most excited about making another movie after X3. commend her for that. WHo knows how much she pushed behind the scenes.

Ive always had a hunch that Ryan Reynolds never dropped out of the Deadpool project like some sites have reported in the past. Glad to hear that the studio is willing to disregard Origins for the reboot of the character. As for the X-Men movies, I'm pretty much X-ed out at this point. Though I'll probably go see them anyway for some fun.

@ejk1 I highly doubt they will keep Cyclops out of a fourth film. Keep in mind that while it was implied he died in X3, it wasn't explicitly stated. He'd be easy to bring back. Xavier, not so much, but there have been times in the comics when the team has been led without him, so there is the possibility of an X-Men film led by Storm and/or Cyclops (though I hope they recast Storm; I always found Halle Berry wrong for that role).

@ejk1 If Amazing Spider man is great then you may have some validity with your point. I'll be happy with just boycotting anything to do with Brett ratner in the future.

@ejk1...Its cuz were all actual comic book readers on here and grew up with these great stories and characters through the decades, were not fat millionaires with no comic book intelligence or familiarity whats so over but see box office numbers over fan appreciation and say we grew up loving this certain character just to save face :D...Wink Wink FOX

  18. Bane5000

@masta-chiefed...I think an older Jackman for an AoA film would be great, in those comics Wolverine doesnt look young, he looks more savage and deadly...and missing a hand :], but i would rather they recast everyone for that film and start fresh, u know...but only if Marvel Studios does it...

@masta-chiefed@bane5000 You guys just keep bringing up storylines that would be perfect for a reboot series. Maybe someone will eventually hear you. But don't count on it :P

@bane5000 Well that's gonna have to ahppen at some point if u want AoA. You do relaize that right? Your kind of hating on your own idea.

@masta-chiefed...Legion, yeah, but the way these films are playing out, once again dont know how thyed be able to introduce him...ittl turn into a daytime soap opera where a woman appears at the mansion and tell Xavier " i have a secret, a secret ive held on to for years but cannot hold to no more...Charles...u have a son"....{ close up to Xaviers face }....dun dun DUNNN lol

  22. Bane5000

@ejk1...FOX should just get these prequels done and let the rights conver to Marvel and let them reboot, cuz honestly after the first 3 films and theyre planned prequel trilogy, what else do they think theyre gonna be able to do with the franchise, but knowing theyre stingy butts they wont alow the rights to convert and just make any ole movie with the title " X-Men " in it just to keep a grip on them

@bane5000 I'm sure we're a lonely few who want to see the AoA storyline. But I'd love that. Especially before H.Jackman gets too old. You need a Nate Grey for that though.

@masta-chiefed...yeah that would be a stretch to bring in a clone and play off that...i just want to see an Age of Apocolypse film sumtime in my lifetime, i think that would be an awesome fresh new take on the teams and characters

  26. Masta_Chiefed

@bane5000 yes that's her. Thanks dude. The clone storyline would be hard to swallow for most, but it's the only way to allow so much more to happen.

@ejk1 I know man. A huge stretch by any one's imagination. Ratner massacred the Xmen series in X3... Actually I think Mutant Massacre would be a great storyline for X4, but anyway, I wouldn't go to an X film without Prof X...

I need a Cable storyline. He was the X-Universe throughout the 90's.
