Writing The Hobbit Finally Continues!

The process of creating the The Lord Of The Rings: Fellowship of The Ring prequel has gotten under way. A scooper wrote in to TheOneRing.net with word that the Guillermo del Toro has begun writing the script for The Hobbit. Here's what the scooper had to say:

"Ive just got home from an early screening of "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" hosted by PopcornTaxi at the Greater Union Cinema in Sydney, where Guillermo did a telephone Q & A from Berlin after the film...The last question though related to The Hobbit - and Guillermo said that although there was nothing to add at the moment - he can say that scripting has started - and he described the process as something 'beautiful.'"

The Hobbit is set for release in 2011 with The Hobbit Sequel to follow in 2012.

UPDATE (8/20/08) The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that not only have del Toro and Peter Jackson resumed writing duties - which they previously said they wouldn't - but they have brought on The Lord Of The Rings writers Fran Walsh and Phillpa Boyens onto the project as well.

It was originally said that del Toro would just direct and Jackson would just executive produce, but a number of things led to them getting involved in the writing process, including their schedules opening up and a deep passion for the project and, in bringing Walsh and Boyens on board, they realized they needed someone with vast knowledge of Middle Earth to get the film completed on time.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey comes to theaters December 14th, 2012 and stars Cate Blanchett, Saoirse Ronan, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee. The film is directed by Peter Jackson.

I just really want to know what the sequel will have if not split in two. I mean, they could put Aragorn chasing Gollum around. But what fun is that?

so like the book, they are gonna show some dark scenes and what not in the beginning, but still lighter than LOTR... and then the second half they are gonna make it more darker to basically introduce the darkness that lead up to the three LOTR movies (and novels). Brilliant!

They said it is not going to be as dark as lotr. but they said the sequal to this one is going to bring in the darkness.
But still this is some pretty aswome news.

yeah, the hobbit is not suppose to be a dark tale, its just suppose to be a fantasy/action-adventure story. its more light than the LOTR, when times were simpler.

The Hobbit is not supposed to be dark. It's a kids fantasy book unlike the lotr.

  13. The Doctor

I hope the film is not "beautiful" as Del Toro stated, because the Hobbit is supposed to be a action. adventure with dark tone throughout film. I can't wait!

    Yes Yes Yes Yes!

Not sure if this will be darker than Lord of the Rings, Phil. The book itself was nowhere near as dark as LOTR. The Ring was never hinted as a dark tool either. Still excited though.

i read the book this summer actually, i havent finished reading it, but i must admit its pretty good. to others its boring because they didnt enjoy the Lord of the Rings movies. Cutting the storyline in two is kinda possible, but they are definitely gonna need to add a couple more scenes or plot than the book.

ok but this better be good cause coming out the year after is never a good sign for a movie like one day you go to the movies and you see the trailer for the hobbit and then a few months later the hobbit is coming out then you see the trailer for the sequel and your thinking to your self wait didn't the hobbit just come out last week and that is never good.

Alright! Woo! Since it's del Toro writing and directing the Hobbit, I'm obviously expecting it to have a darker tone than it's LOTR counterparts. SCHWEEET!!!
