"Obviously the book is not written as a narrative. You try to take things from the book, but at the same time you're changing certain things. I do feel we're trying to keep it in the spirit of the book because it's important. There are a lot of fans and people who love the book. In that sense, I feel we are doing our own film, telling our own story because we had to. But we're trying to still include as much as we can from the book."
The director also discussed the controversial point of how the zombies actually move in his version of World War Z.
"The one thing, which a lot of people will have discussions over, is the movement of the zombies and how the zombies will move. In Max Brooks' book they move in the George A. Romero fashion. I feel like we have a little bit of a different approach, but it doesn't exclude that they might not eventually be fashioned how George A. Romero's zombies move. It's just a little bit of a different approach. I think that will probably be the biggest discussion there will be."
World War Z comes to theaters June 2013 and stars Brad Pitt, Eric West, Matthew Fox, David Morse, James Badge Dale, Mireille Enos, David Andrews, Elyes Gabel. The film is directed by Marc Forster.

The original script and the 2007 revision are available for free and are in PDF form. Just do a little careful Googling and you will find them and after you've read them, your brain will explode like mine did.
And not in a good way either.

World War Z is getting the same desp*cable rotten Hollywood treatment as did Starship Troopers and I, Robot. There is absolutely no respect for the book or for it's fans. The only thing World War Z about the movie is the title World War Z. This jackass would've filmed Gone With The Wind with ninjas and pirates.
I've read the first two drafts of the script and seen the fast zombie footage from YouTube. The whole movie is Brad Pitt sandwiched between battle scenes. There's no feral girl, there's no downed air force pilot. There's no artist in the wheelchair. There's no K9 dog handler (the chapter that makes me cry whenever I reread it). No Chinese submarine commander. It's not even the same zombies for Pete's sakes!
And if those gun nuts who hate the book because our military with the great big guns get their asses kicked at the Battle of Yonkers think they were cheated, they ain't seen nothing yet.
Marc Forster, the only way I'll pay to see this train wreck is if I can kick you in the nuts on the way into the theater.

I am disapointed with the more conventional approach. The book is genius and i would have liked to see a screen writer/director take that on and nail it but i guess they thought that the BEST SELLING BOOK wouldnt have enough word of mouth or fanb base to warrent the risks. That is garbage. I would have been so impressed if they could have pulled off the concept of the book. I realize they wouldnt have been able to fit every story in there but they could have nailed the big ones.

@moviewiz001 @bawnian-dexeus No, not better. I was going to suggest what @kaiser117 said, with making an anthology series like on HBO, like half hour/45 minute episodes that cover different people the reporter interviews til it's complete. Obviously some were shorter than others, so they'd have to get creative with the writing (or skip those ones), but I would have much preferred that over what they're doing with the movie. At least then the integrity of the book would have remained.

Interesting how he says there might be eventual slow moving zombies. Does that mean they are only fast when they first turn? I agree @kaiser117, that's how i always saw the story working. Like how Band of Brothers did it.

So what you're saying is that it won't be like the book at all, and won't include the stories I know and love. And you changed the fundamental nature of the main antagonistic force, too. This kinda sucks, guys. They could essentially made a series of short films that stuck more to the source material and I would have been happier. Guess they have to show off their star...
