World War Z Moves Forward with Brad Pitt

World War Z moves forward with Brad Pitt
Last we heard, Paramount Pictures' adaptation of Max Brooks' zombie novel World War Z was in financial trouble. That may not be the case any longer, as David Ellison's Skydance production house, as well as two other unknown financiers, are looking to share the $125 million budget with the studio.

Brad Pitt is still attached to star in the production, with Paramount planning a June start date for principle photography. Marc Forster is still set to direct the thriller, which looks at the aftermath of a global zombie infestation ten years down the road. Matt Carnahan is still the credited screenwriter at this point in the game.

Paramount Pictures is hoping to have the film finished before a second onslaught of zombie films infiltrates the Cineplex in the next couple of years. The genre is hot once again with Summit moving forward on the romantic living dead romp Warm Bodies, Lionsgate prepping Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Universal doing the zombie police comedy R.I.P.D., and sequels to 28 Days Later, Resident Evil, and Zombieland 2 all on the way. There is also The Kitchen Sink, which finds a teen teaming up with a zombie and a vampire to battle an alien invasion, and Paul is Undead which reimagines The Beatles as undead flesh eaters.

If Paramount doesn't move on World War Z soon, they may put the project on the back burner indefinitely due to zombie fatigue.

World War Z comes to theaters June 21st, 2013 and stars Brad Pitt, Eric West, Matthew Fox, David Morse, Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale, Julian Seager, Michiel Huisman. The film is directed by Marc Forster.

WHEW!!!!! Was getting a little worried there with all the rumors floating around this production.

If you havnt read the books all i can say is: DO IT. DO IT NOW.

If they stay true to the source material (and from everything i have read thats exactly the case) then this movie will be epic, emotional, action packed and examinatory.

    MAKE IT SO!

@brian Have you read the book, dude? WWZ is NOT your average zombie story. This would be on TWD's level of quality, or above it, if they do it right.

@Nick-Soto: I remember 9yrs ago now that I was standing outside a Dinah's in Westwood, SoCal, and there was this big billboard for the original (right across from a cemetery). And there was this group of gamers in Dinah's that were chatting about how awesome the game was, and how this film would be awesome. I just can't believe that all these years later such a quaint image has been ruined by Hollywood's greed.

  28. Err

i would agree that no, there are plenty of RE movies already, but let's face it the RE movies have a strong fanbase and is a money-making franchise so i don't see any way around it.

looking forward to seeing WWZ, i hope it works out.

@slysnide agree please no more Resident Evil movies. I love the genre but I hate when Hollywood picks up on something hot then floods us with crap. World War Z needs to happen, can't wait.
