Witchblade Coming to the Big Screen

Movie Picture
Platinum Studios, Top Cow Prods. and Arclight Films will team on a live-action feature adaptation of Witchblade, based on the Top Cow comicbook franchise. The comicbook introduced the Witchblade mythology, which centers on an ornate jewel-encrusted gauntlet that gives extraordinary powers to the wearer, a specially chosen female from each generation.

The comicbook franchise has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide since debuting in 1995 and spawned a 2000 telepic that turned into a weekly series that ran for two seasons on TNT. "Witchblade" has been published in more than 21 languages and 55 countries, with merchandise widely sold. The most recent incarnation was an anime TV show in Japan by Gonzo Digimation in 2006.

"This property is the cornerstone of our upcoming production and sales slate," said Arclight CEO Gary Hamilton. "We hope to be able to start production in September."

The companies are already eyeing a location shoot in Australia.

This should not be released... Seriously.... Why the hell doesn't 'The Darkness' Come first? I mean Witchblade is technically a sequel AND a spin-off (at the same time) to/of 'The Darkness'.... Plus seeing 'The Darkness' go off would be quite the visual show... definitely was a fan of the comic and game, but a 'The Darkness' movie would be great.

Witchblade, lets see, anime, and now movie? Yup, finding it very unlikely it'll be any good, it'll end up a Film version of heavy metal 2000... i might have it on dvd, but it's still crap.

Decent comics, alright anime, but I think it would be bad live action.

This sounds sooo cool just because of the famous Devil May Cry Game i would rather see them go towards that then watching them put this in production

Good news, guess this will debut in summer 2009...Loved the artwork of this 90's comic and liked the TNT series staring Yancy Butler as the titular Witchblade character.

I wonder who'd they cast as Witchblade? I'd suggest Jennifer Garner (Elektra), Jennifer Esposito (Rescue Me) or Jessica Biel.
