William Shatner Responds to J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Comments

William Shatner has responded via YouTube video to comments made by director J.J. Abrams regarding why Shatner is not reprising his role of Captain James T. Kirk in the latest version of Star Trek.

Looks like it's a classic case of miscommunication, where Abrams was told that Shatner would not be interested in a cameo appearance and thought the movie should focus more on his character. Shatner explains that he was never contacted to do a cameo, but agreed that he would like a larger role and suggested a part in a follow-up.

Star Trek was released May 8th, 2009 and stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Leonard Nimoy, Eric Bana, Bruce Greenwood, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams.

    Doesn't really matter. Shatner flat out said he wouldn't do a cameo. Sounds like he wants a bigger part.

    Shatner was pretty condescending in his response to Abrams' claims of a turned-down cameo. At least he got his point across. I've never been a big Star Trek fan, but I'm looking forward to this one.

    I'm pretty sure that Shatner has always been a bit condescending and sarcatic. It is well doc*mented that the original cast did not like Shatner for a very long time... in fact, I've never read where they all love each other. I'm sure now that they are 20 years from the last movie they are fine because professionally it makes sense to get along and it's not that hard since they don't see each other all the time. Much like they would when they were making a movie ever 3 -4 years.
