Cementary Dance magazine (courtesy of Bloody Disgusting) recently interviewed the author, and when asked if he would change anything about the original film, Blatty stated:
Yes and no. I would love to have been able to include the subplot involving Karl and his daughter Elvira which I did in my first draft, but that script ran to 172 pages, much, much too long. But I might have it my way in the near future, inasmuch as I've written an Exorcist miniseries script that not only faithfully includes all the main elements of the novel, but also some rather spooky new material and scenes, as well as a totally new (and perhaps much more satisfying) ending. I've also updated it. Billy Friedkin has agreed to direct.
There is no word on when or if this proposed miniseries will begin production. We will keep you updated as more info comes forth.
The Exorcist was released December 26th, 1973 and stars Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow, Lee J. Cobb, Kitty Winn, Jack MacGowran, Jason Miller, Linda Blair, Reverend William O'Malley. The film is directed by William Friedkin.

As a TV mini series, it might work. In the movie theater, nah. Haven't seen Paranormal Activity, but i've heard some people liked it, other's that did not. I'll have to make up my own decision once it comes out on DVD/Blu Ray.

I thought Stephen King did a really good job on The Shining remake back in '97 so I have high hopes for this.

I thought that it was way creepy when you hear that thumping noise, and then she walks down the stairs upside down, and then the blood comes out of her mouth. That was on "The version you've never seen". That freaked me out! She looked like some weird demon insect.

Lol, yeah, i forgot that one, geek.
P.A.C.K., I was around 7 or 8 when i first watched it. Yeah, I know too young for those types of movies, but I have cool parents that let me watch all kinds of movies except porn and Basic Instinct, oh and the first Bad Boys movie. But yeah, I found nothing scary or startling about that movie. That was the first horror movie I'd seen, too.

I don't know that we need an Exorcist update. But I have enjoyed Friedkin's work on CSI, he's good at small screen storytelling.
(Newkill, what year did you see the movie?)

Hopefully this will come on network tv. I don't have cable. I really want to see this miniseries, because the novel is my favorite book to read. I read almost every year and it scares the sh*t out of me, but when I saw the movie, I thought it was the biggest piece of sh*t ever put on the face of this planet. To me, that movie wasn't scary one bit, just a bunch fog, vomit, head twists, pee, and a little bitch talking some sh*t to two priest.
