William Hurt has joined the cast of the upcoming drama, The Countess, according to MTV.

Julie Delpy stars in the film about Elizabeth Bathory, the famed "Blood Countess" of the 16th century.

Delpy revealed "William Hurt is now on board. And so is Daniel Bruhl (who appears in her current film, 2 Days in Paris), a fantastic German actor."

She revealed that Hurt "is playing the most Machiavellian [character]. He's not a murderer. He's a very powerful man. There's a lot of political intrigue."

Radha Mitchell and Vincent Gallo also star in the film which Delpy describes as "a romantic drama with a hint of a thriller" and will begin filming at the end of October.
