Willem Dafoe Comes Aboard John Carter of Mars

The cast of Andrew Stanton's new film has just found another addition. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Willem Dafoe has signed on for John Carter of Mars.

Dafoe joins a cast that already includes X-Men Origins: Wolverine actors Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins. The film centers around a Civil War soldier who finds himself transported to Mars in the midst of a planetary war. Dafoe will portray Tars Tarkas, the leader of the Thark race, who believes they must avoid war to survive.

Andrew Stanton is directing from a script he co-wrote with Mark Andrews, which is based off the Edgar Rice Burroughs classic novel series. The film is planning on starting production in early 2010.

John Carter comes to theaters March 9th, 2012 and stars Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Bryan Cranston, Mark Strong, Willem Dafoe, CiarĂ¡n Hinds, Dominic West, Thomas Haden Church. The film is directed by Andrew Stanton.

    Willem Dafoe as the leader of an alien race? Sounds dumb unless it's just his vioce for a CG character, which sounds more promissing.
