Dafoe wasn't previously announced as part of a cast that also includes Salma Hayek, John C. Reilly, Ken Wantanabe, Ray Stevenson, Josh Hutcherson, Patrick Fugit and Chris Massoglia. The site was recently on the set of the film and revealed Dafoe has been cast as a vampire, although they wouldn't reveal much more about the character, besides he was "quite a dapper, old Hollywood" vampire.
The film is currently shooting in New Orleans and the film has been slated for release sometime in 2009.
Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant was released October 23rd, 2009 and stars John C. Reilly, Josh Hutcherson, Chris Massoglia, Jessica Carlson, Michael Cerveris, Ray Stevenson, Patrick Fugit, Daniel Newman. The film is directed by Paul Weitz.

I read the book Cirque du Freak years ago and it was epic.
I cant beleive their going through with this, I dont mean that in a bad way but the book was so insane and creepy I cant imagine this on the big screen.
