Now this is a role perfect for Will Smith. Egyptians are kind of dark skinned. Will Smith will be able to pull it off and he always wanted to be in this movie.

silvershield is right. I teach world history and he's absolutely correct. Taharqa was the son of Piye who conquored Egypt. Then Taharqa took over and lost his reign when the Assyrians led by Esarhaddon invaded Egypt. Although he did successfully repel the Assyrian's first invasion, he succ*mbed to the second wave. Taharqa actually escaped being taken prisoner but his brother and son didn't. Later, Taharqa fights back and regains Memphis... only to lose it again when the Assyrians invade it.

It's just a back and forth story between the Nubians and the Assyrians. Why they're making this into a movie I don't know. Maybe they think all the battle action will be enough to bring in the audience. I doubt it.

I'd be excited for this if it wasn't for Hollywood being infamous for trading historical accuracy for what they believe would bring big box office numbers. I'm confident in Smith tackling a role like this, but I really don't want it to be another Gladiator. Braveheart was a terrific movie however, and it's director, Wallace, is writing the screenplay for the Last Pharaoh. So maybe there's hope after all.

My damn post got cut off. Taharqa was not a native Egyptian, he was a Nubian whose father conquered Egypt. Hollywood needs to explain all this if they're going to do it.

could be interesting, but if they don't explain this, it's going to start a bunch of crap about 'see, the Egyptians were black.' Don't bother doing it if they don't acknowledge this. And Taharqa wasn't the 'last pharaoh' anyway.
