Will Ferrell says Anchorman 2 is scrapped
Southern Rivals is to start production this fall, and centers on two politicians aiming for a position in "a small congressional district in South Carolina." The film's release will coincide with election season next year and will "have comments on the circumstance now in modern day politics."
Will Ferrell was asked if he'd heard anything about Zoolander 2 and replied:
"Zoolander 2 I don't know anything about."
Then Will Ferrell revealed that the Anchorman 2 project is currently scrapped:
"Anchorman 2, you really have to assert some sort of email hate campaign to Paramount Pictures. They've told us, 'We've run the numbers and it's not a good fit.'"
"We were going to do almost a reverse... almost like how the Marx brothers used to do - we were going to do a Broadway musical and then have a film come out after the stage show. Everyone we tell the idea loves it, except for the studio that owns the rights. Ball's in their courts, but they're being idiots."

Lastly, Will Ferrell was asked about the possibility of a Step Brothers 2, and the actor confirmed that he and director Adam McKay recently met up with John C. Reilly and discussed the project:
"Yeah, we just sat down with John [C. Reilly] and we were kicking around some ideas," Ferrell said. So, you know, maybe. We'll see."
Zoolander 2 is in development and stars Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell. The film is directed by Justin Theroux.
Anchorman: The Legend Continues comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Will Ferrell, David Koechner, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, Christina Applegate. The film is directed by Adam McKay.

@rocknrolla It just gets on my nerves. They're gonna put out Titanic in 3D, spend all that money on the already biggest movie of all time, but they won't greenlight a little comedy. A quote about executives from Jerry Seinfeld I really liked: "Entertainment is not their field".

@disciple419 I think I read somewhere that Will Ferrell & even the rest of the cast were willing to take pay cuts so that the film could get made. Even after saying that they would do that Paramount still wouldn't greenlight it. So it's not the Will Ferrell's price tag is too high, Paramount are just idiots.

@rufio I like what Kevin Smith is doing right now. Self funding and promoting without T.V and other medias. I can't remember the last movie I "discovered" from a T.V ad. Guys like Ferrell, who already has a high traffic website, should produce movies himself. You can buy those Red cameras for like $30,000. I would write it, shoot it, and distribute it myself. You know people would show up for Will Ferrell just form websites like this one.

@disciple419 - agreed. the casting cost (most likely Farrell in particular) is probably more than they're willing to risk. especially if they are talking of live show appearances and such to promote the movie.

Southern Rivals sounds like it would be good. But I don't really care about all those sequels to mediocre/crappy movies to begin with. I hear great things about his Everything Must Go movie.

I think the only reason Paramount wouldn't do another Anchorman is if Will Ferrell's quote is too high. They probably don't want to pay him what he currently gets for a lead
