Arnold Schwarzenegger could return to the Terminator franchise
A year ago, Pacificor acquired the rights to The Terminator franchise. It was believed that a sequel to Terminator Salvation would happen, although that is not the case. It seems the bidding war for the franchise, which Sony and Lionsgate were involved in, ended bitterly for both studios, which were both hoping to distribute future Terminator movies. Now it seems Universal is the most likely candidate for where the franchise will land.
William Wisher Jr., who co-wrote Terminator 2: Judgment Day, also has an extensive treatment for a fifth Terminator project, and an outline for a sixth movie as well. The time-travel element is brought back in this treatment, which sees a reunion for Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese from the first Terminator.
No deals have been signed with anyone at this time, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, so it isn't clear yet where this franchise is heading.
The Terminator was released October 26th, 1984 and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Biehn, Linda Hamilton, Paul Winfield, Lance Henriksen, Bess Motta, Earl Boen, Rick Rossovich. The film is directed by James Cameron.

@CBF, technically, he is still under Connor.
Chain of command and all that:
Reece, Perry, Connor

@incmob "...even bringing back connor and reese, could blow the continuity up as well."
That's one very good point, and one thing I could not fit into the continuity. Reese said in The Terminator that he was under General Perry from '21 to '27, in which he was under Connor for two years and sent back in '29. When he's interrogated in the jail house, and the cop asks "that's the year 2021?" So to now be under Connor since '18, not '27 -- that blows the canon right there.

That's fine. "Salvation" didn't really need a sequel anyway. Sure it would've been neat to see up to the point where Reese & T-1000 go back in time, as well as T-X, but the visuals would be nothing new, as we saw the 'mad max' look of the future in "Salvation," so a lot of the story and intrigue is already ruined.

A robot doesn't get old, there is no reason why a terminator should have an older skin of Arnie on him. The only way i think this would work if he does something like he did in Terminator 3 where he appears as a human. Now in Terminator 3 they made him look like a man ho does fitness, works out, and he looks like an idiot. They could make him as Gordon Freeman from Half Life like a badass scientist.

I'm a huge Terminator fan but Arnie is too old to play a terminator now. They should continue with the future wars but set in 2029 era with the resistence fighting the ground & air HK's that we know & love from the first two films (T3 was a total joke)

@incmob My favorite character had to be Sully....... "F*ckin' whor*" lol. The way he says it with that inflection in his voice is hilarious.

@dan1 And you cant forget the infamous, saw blade slicing off the soldiers scalp towards the end as well!
okay so i own it, guilty pleasures... i bet anyone would be hard pressed to find any 11 year old kid in 1986 without a commando poster on the wall, right next to sly's cobra... i did ;)

I love to see Arnold back to the big screen but not come back as Terminator because he is too old to play the role again and about Terminator, I think they should move forwad to the future showing people how they defeat Skynet.

I'm not talking about when they were fighting the Humans, i'm talking about the "montage sequence" After he gets his flying Bat-thing, they go hunting....

@incmob lmao... I just watched part of Commando again the other day. The music in that movie just slays me, it's so cheesy and funny. I start cracking up when the xylophone and saxophone kick in :P

@narrator i totally agree with you. I too felt that salvation was a step in the right direction. personally as i always had felt before, i think that had they done a new trilogy, end the films with each corresponding with the first three films... example: salvation ends with reese and terminator going back, the sequel to salvation have arnold and T-1000 go back and so on. it would have connected them to each of the original trilogies. I too looked forward to the epic war that were displayed in each of the first three films, and i feel it could have happened. i loved the nods they did with salvation regarding the first three films as well in salvation. And personally i would love to see arnold return, but lets get real here... he is looking pretty old, if cameron did not feel that arnold would "blend" in originally with the first film... how can they convince us that arnold is this deadly machine at the ripe old age of 63?? even bringing back connor and reese, could blow the continuity up as well.
Personally i dont think arnold will do it. sure he has made statements about returning to acting, and it is the first thing we think about with him as well (who really thinks about a twins 2 or commando 2 return), but i think that hopefully universal will make an adequate follow up to salvation or just maybe just reboot the whole damn thing.

Bad idea, just leave this franchise alone. The first 2 was classic, the others are .....

Arnold has just put his face in Terminator Salvation. The body inside the cameo is the bodybuilder Roland Kickinger. The dear old Arnie can not make T-800: cyborg do not age and don't lose their muscles :(

The Narrator: The Better Man
I'm with @comicbookfan. While the first two films started it all, and are really the greatest of the franchise, there's so much left to be discovered and put on the big screen. As he said, the things to watch our for are the often confusing time-lines. The writers of the short-ran show and the past few films don't seem to have contacting one another in regards to continuity, and instead just changed the time-lines and invasion dates to fit their own films purpose, etc. They need to stop that, and get things in concrete for people to grasp... people like myself, lol.
As for the people ragging on T4 - Salvation was a step in the right direction, folks. Yes, we didn't get the epic night battles, with lasers in tow, over a field of skulls, like we always dreamed of, but we were getting there. The story they were trying to show us was the lead into that post-apocalyptic nightmare, and I feel people forget about that simply because it wasn't the thing Cameron promised fans. I say, keep the same cast from Salvation (Bale included, he can do better, you know it), for continuity's sake. Get a better director, a solid penner (writer), and have Cameron be a liaison on the project, and it WILL WORK, I tell you.

@cupid That's a good question. SkyNet was obviously targeting the Leader of The Resistance... which wasn't Connor until the end of 2018. Reese was sent back in 2029, when the T-800s came online and the TDE was first switched on by SkyNet. The T-800s storming the battlefields was an advantage for SkyNet's side of the war, so I can't say the tide was turning in The Resistance's favor at the time Reese was sent back. It's hard to say how they knew, but if you think of all the timelines, how did SkyNet know about Reese being Connor's father? It's confusing and may hurt your brain as to what SkyNet knows now in this future, now that there's been 3 instances of warnings.. or well, 2 assassination attempts, and the rise of SkyNet overseen. Even Connor said things in Salvation regarding SkyNet advancing their technology quicker because they know stuff now due to what's happened in the past. I think a lot of the John Connor leading The Resistance to victory has always been prophecy, probably because of SkyNet targeting him since before he was born, which the first leader mentions as being prophecy, but if you wrap your head around it, what was the FIRST timeline that made them know? And that's where it gets confusing.

@dan1 Thanks. Yeah, I figured I'd move with the crowd on that one lol. Anyway, yeah, I get that a lot of people are James Cameron-Terminator purists, that only see the first 2 movies as canon, and that's cool, but it doesn't mean they are. Quite the contrary, actually. The movies continue on, and so does canon. I love the first two movies and parts of Rise of the Machines and Salvation. I just hope they continue to do the future war right.
