Who Will Play Duke in G.I. Joe?

Of all the casting news coming out of Stephen Sommers' G.I. Joe, the question that remains on everyone's mind is "Who is playing Duke?" The casting of the G.I. Joe team leader will arguably make or break this film, so the anxiety among the fans is understandable. Latino Review has news that Sam Worthington is out, due to his commitment to James Cameron's Avatar, and that the three other contenders are Chris Evans, Matthew Fox and Channing Tatum.

Evans is known to comic book fans for his role as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in Fantastic Four, while Matthew Fox is recognizable for his role on ABC's Lost, and his role as Racer X in the upcoming Speed Racer adaptation.

Tatum, on the other hand has experience playing military roles, as he will be playing a U.S. soldier in the upcoming Stop Loss.

At the present, the confirmed cast list for G.I. Joe includes Ray Parks (Snake Eyes), Rachel Nichols (Scarlett), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Heavy Duty), Said Taghmaoui (Breaker), Marlon Wayans (Ripcord), Sienna Miller (the Baroness) and Byung-hun Lee (Storm Shadow), and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Duke's best friend, and possibly Cobra Commander). G.I. Joe is on schedule for a 2009 release.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra was released August 7th, 2009 and stars Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Christopher Eccleston, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Byung-hun Lee, Sienna Miller, Rachel Nichols, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce. The film is directed by Stephen Sommers.

fox is the only one old enough to play the role, but since reasonable ages is not a factor i suppose they could just get will smiths son to play duke.

i mean hey, if cobra commander is 25 (totally believeable, totally) and the baroness is like 24 then why not have a 12 year old duke? its not any less believeable then cobra commander or baroness.

i'd go with matt fox on this one. i really dont see evans in this role. i dont think hes a strong enough actor. plus fox LOOKS like duke so i see it more. i have no idea who the other guy is.

Evans or Tatum would be a mistake. i think they're both too young for the role. Fox plays the "leader" role in Lost, so it wouldn't be new to him. The fact that Tatum has another role playing a military role is a reason not to cast him...If another movie came out about pirates would you cast Johnny Depp as the captain... (the example that came to mind)

  6. THE JOKER

I think Evans would be really good. he was definitely one of the most enjoyable characters in the fantastic four as he was one of the best actors there. i think he would be really good. amd of not him then definitely Channiing Tatum

Oh, yes, Chris Evans or Channing Tatum, that's the hottest choice of them all.

They are are going to get the worst of the three actors, which is by far Channing Tatum... This movie is going to be complete sh*t.

They all seem a little too young, don't they? Except for Fox. At least he doesn't look it.

I guess, out of those contenders, I would have to take Matthew Fox, as he seems experienced enough for the role. Evans is a good actor, but is too cood at playing the hot headed sidekick.

So far the actors named for the role of Duke are not to impressive, the actor that I feel that might work for the leading role for this movie for Duke is PAUL WALKER,I think he would be great for this role,he has the bult and looks the part.

I don't see LaBeouf being Duke. Maybe if he was a little older and more bulked up.

But Sam Worthington would have been THE best Duke....I can just picture him in that role so clearly.

Shia LaBeouf is way to skinny to even be considered for Duke. I think he gained like 15lbs. of muscle for Indy 4 and he still looks pretty skinny, so he would have to hit the gym big time! I would deffinitly go with Chris Evans! He looks the part and isn't a terrible actor either.

Celluloid Dream. I like what your thinking with Shia LaBeouf his a great actor. They'll probably stick closer to the animated show & comics and go with an older actor. However they didn't do that with Transformers and that worked out fine.
Likely they'll go with Chris Evans or Channing Tatum, I don't see Matthew Fox in this role.
I'd like to see Destro, any word on him yet.
