Wesley Strick to Write New Nightmare on Elm Street Script

Movie Picture
New Line has set veteran writer Wesley Strick to pen the script for the new Nightmare on Elm Street series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The original Nightmare On Elm Street was written and directed by Wes Craven and released in 1984. It created one of the most popular villains in screen history, Freddy Krueger, played by Robert Englund, and its runaway success spawned a slew of sequels.

The films' premise centered on Krueger, a serial child killer murdered who returns with a burned face and razor glove to terrorize teens in their dreams.

The new project will keep the high school setting and delve deeper in the psychology of nightmares and Krueger himself. The plan is to have a dark tone.

The company hopes to have the movie ready for the 25th anniversary of the original. But no production date has been set.

A Nightmare on Elm Street was released April 30th, 2010 and stars Jackie Earle Haley, Kyle Gallner, Rooney Mara, Katie Cassidy, Thomas Dekker, Kellan Lutz, Clancy Brown, Connie Britton. The film is directed by Samuel Bayer.

"The plan is to have a dark tone"?!. Lol. No sh*t, Sherlock. Been waiting for some more concrete news on this, even though I didn't doubt another would be made. Especially with a new Friday the 13th movie drawing ever closer.

i think this film will be awesome an to be honest i love robert englund as kruger always will, but i think a remake or re imaging will work better without him, no offence bit thats my opinion.
i really hopethey dont try to spoil it by changing things to be fancy like they did with the new halloween..mike myers escapeing cus the gaurds were to busy raping a woman...er no.
Films like this arent really ment to be too main stream so it has to be rated r and be really dark, how else can you explain a mass murderer killing kids an then been set on fire an then eventually ressurected.

Remake, its a remake... a prequel would take place before the Johnny Depp original. Before Freddy Krueger becomes a dream killer would be an example...

    Wait is this a prequel?

If this remake sucks, I'm going to get pissed. These remakes have the potential of being greater than the original but they decide to f*ck it up for graphic sex scenes and drug use or marijauna

    meh.
    i disagree.

in my opinion rob't englund is too old.
but im willing to agree to disagree, without getting all uppity about it.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake starring Jessica Biel was good, so, with the right talent, the new Nightmare on Elm Street has alot of potential...especially with a judicious amount of CGI for dream/concious crossover scenes.

As for Robert Englund being 60/too old to play the part, I don't think so. He could do the acting parts, the stunt double, the action. His face would be covered with extensive makeup anyway...Harrison Ford is like 65 and he pulled off Indy4.

I look forward to seeing this reboot.

Well, I PERSONALLY liked the remakes better. Like I said earlier in the thread... there are a few remakes that I feel are better. Most are not, but some are. Scarface and Bourne Identity are two of those I feel were better. I don't know why, maybe it was the action sequences or something.

i better go smoke a cigarette and pray to the movie-gods for forgiveness.

    so the original was good?
i wasnt too keen on the matt damon one.
it just wasnt for me, but ill check out the original if i stumble across it. thanks for the heads up.

And err... I can't believe you didn't know the Bourne Identity was a remake. Wow. I remember seeing the original back in the 80's with Richard Chamberlain and the HOT Jaclyn Smith (my favorite of ALL Charlie's Angels).

Yea... the movie by Brian De Palma is such a masterpiece, very few people realize it was a remake. Al Pacino's take on Tony Montana is amazing. The storyline is the same but they changed it for the times... from a mobster to a cuban drug dealer. Same story though.

lol... damn who would have known that Scarface was a remake, thats cool

  19. Err

well the 1932 scarface synopsis says
"An ambitious and near insanely violent gangster climbs the ladder of success in the mob, but his weaknesses prove to be his downfall"

and the main character is tony camonte, not too far off from 'tony montana', so i guess youre right.

    my bad.

  20. Err

i didnt know the bourne id, or scarface were remakes.
really scarface? are you sure it doesnt just share a title with an old mobster flick?

maybe i should do some research real quick before i go arguing the point.

lol... i actually didnt, well Bourne Identity i did know that was a remake but besides The Texas Chainsaw Massacre i allways see the original first and the only reason i didnt see the original it was becuase it was hard for me 2 get it

  22. Err

    definitely the fly, i agree.

then again its a cronenberg flick, back when he was still doing horror, and he's my favorite director, so of course im going to agree, but its still a great friggin movie.

Here's some advice... next time you hear a movie is being release and its a remake... go rent out the original and watch it first. It is unfair to watch the remakes first since they have the luxury of using CGI and all this other crap. Judge the original for its story and its originality. Then you'll see what I'm talking about when I say remakes are not as good as the originals.

Don't get me wrong. There ARE some remakes that outclass the originals (aka Bourne Identity (2002), Scarface (1983), Cape Fear (1991), The Fly (1986) and The Thing (1982)) but most of the time, they can't hold a candle to them. Bet you didn't know some of the movies I mentioned were actually remakes, huh?

  24. Nyfresh

lol.... i understand u completly and actually i saw the original after the remake so maybe thats y i liked the remake but then i saw the original like a week later (had to order it online, i had 2 see the original after i saw that one) and i honestly thought they did a pretty decent job on that one

    4 years agoby @leo16Flag

  25. MovieBuff

I don't know Nyfresh... maybe its cause I was a like 9 years old when the original came out and it scared the sh*t out of me. The remake didn't.... probably cause I'm an adult now and horror movies are too predictable and unscary now. You sure you didn't like the remake cause of Jessica Biel and not necessarily cause it was a good remake? HAHA

Hollywood, as I have said before, is losing its originality. If they wanted to bring back these timeless horror flicks, they would do it right. Horror fans can't be scared anymore, they want to see dumb f*gits f*ck young girls senseless, or vice versa, and get high as f*ck. Look at Rob Zombie's Halloween, that sh*t had some real graphic sex scenes, that were pointless and by the first five minutes of the film I wasn't impressed. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre the remake, wasn't all that bad. It was the 'prequel' that was sh*tty. I think they're wasting their time remaking an original horror film such as A Nightmare On Elm Street

BRAVO moviebuff very inspiring speach really, i cant just imagine that alot of us feel this way but all we can do is let it be, but u did say u didnt like the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, like hello that was a really good remake, that has 2 be like the only one i actually have liked
