Wes Craven to Direct Scream 4?

We reported last month that a fourth sequel to the hit 1996 horror spoof Scream was in the works, and it's apparently been brought to director Wes Craven's attention as well. Bloody-Disgusting, which broke the original news of Scream 4, caught up with Craven at an event for the remake, The Last House on the Left, who confirmed that the sequel is indeed under way, and what would have to happen for Craven to direct.

"It would take it being really as good a script as the first one was," explaining that he should also be compensated for his work on the franchise, "and the pay day reflects what I've done for that company and what I've gone through on Cursed (laughs)."

He also added that he didn't know what the new script by Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original Scream, would entail, but confirmed his involvement.

"I don't know his ideas at all. But they have made a deal with Kevin [Williamson] to write."

We'll keep you updated on this potential sequel as soon as more information comes in.

    Why wouldn't it ever happen?

Craven has stated that Kennedy is part of the writing team.
Or is this because it doesn't say so on IMDB, check the status update on it.
The last time the Scream 4 page was updated on IMDB was 13 Jan 2009, more than a month ago.
So that means that they must have confirmed it themselves that Wes Craven is set to direct and Williamson to write, even though around 13 Jan 2009 none of them had confirmed anything about the project, and everything was the same as it is now.

The only official / un-official thing on Scream 4 is its being written by Kevin Williamson and Michael T Kennedy and is based upon the template of Kennedy's treatment.

Wes Craven hasn't confirmed that he is in the director's seat yet, but yet IMDB says he is...

    Scre4m
    A Treatment
    By: Michael T. Kennedy
    Based on Characters Created By:
    Kevin Williamson
    and
    Ehren Kruger

    Synopsis
SIDNEY PRESCOTT has been living the last few years of her life in relative silence. Now a guidance counselor for Woodsboro High School, her alma mater, she finally lives her life out of the media spotlight. But with the discovery of a murdered student, Sidney Prescott's world will once again be ripped apart by the reemergence of Ghost Face.

    The Opening Scene
Affluent home. Night. We open on a teenage girl, blonde and leggy, engaged in a conversation with a friend, via the telephone. Beep. Call waiting. The girl answers and the familiar, menacing voice responds. Through early conversation we learn that the girl is Caylee Green.

Caylee discovers that this is no typical prank call. She quickly dials her friend. No answer.

The phone rings, it is the friend, Rachel Gellar. Rachel pleads with her to do what she says. Caylee is confused.

Suddenly the man's menacing voice creeps into the conversation. He has both Caylee and Rachel on the same call. He quizzes them, plays with them. Finding that Rachel has a boyfriend and Caylee does not.

We see INTERCUT shots of Rachel, another busty blonde, and Caylee scanning their homes and yards through windows. Both are home alone in their respective affluent houses. The killer hints to his whereabouts, both Caylee and Rachel thinking he is outside their doors.

    CAYLEE
    HELP ME!

Caylee goes silent. The man's voice...GONE. Rachel pleads into the phone for Caylee to answer her. No answer.

Rachel's sees this as an opportunity to escape. She grabs her car keys from the kitchen counter, still clutching to the phone. She moves through the house and out the front door.

Rachel runs to her car parked in the driveway. Opens the door...
The body of her dead boyfriend falls to the ground.
Rachel panics, hops in, and starts the engine.
Rachel hears Caylee through the phone yelling for her.

    CAYLEE
    Rachel he's with you!

She reaches for the gearshift when...
    GHOST FACE
The killer pops up in the backseat behind her.

    MAN'S VOICE
    You lose!

The last thing Rachel sees is the blade of a knife slicing at her throat, killing her.

There was a rumour that Jamie Kennedy was in talks to repirse his role in the Scream series. But as i stated it's only a RUMOUR.

But if it's true then that would mean that the upcoming Scream Film, would be set somewhere between 1 & 2, because Jamie Kennedy is killed off in Scream 2.

Here is the official article from the Scream 4 website which is from sourced by Filmstalker

    Friday January 2nd 2009: Report from FilmStalker.co.uk

It's hard to believe that there could be room for a fourth Scream film, and some of the stars seem to think that too, but Bob Weinstein is holding out hope for it, so much so that there's a script and stars are being courted.
According to Jamie Kennedy and the scriptwriter Michael T. Kennedy, the film is happening and the script is written, but Weinstein wants the entire crew back for the fourth film, alive or dead.
Now how will that work exactly? I think the "who cares" line comes into play at this point, it'll be suspension of disbelief, or flash backs to the past, or...look, the real question is do we need or want a fourth Scream film? Haven't they been done to death? If studios are dropping films such as Case 39, why are they even bothering with films like this?
Well it does look like it's happening according to IfMagazine through a reader of HorrorMovies.ca (no link available). They say that a press release states the filming will start in 2009, and that this isn't just a sequel, but it will re-start the franchise, so expect a bunch more to follow.

"Jamie Kennedy has since told iFMagazine that he may reprise his role as Randy Meeks in the fourth film, despite his character having previously been killed off in the second film of the trilogy. He also claimed that the rest of the cast would be a mixture of new characters with "old faces that you wouldn't believe," and that the film will only go ahead with the involvement of director Wes Craven.
..."Bob wants us all to return for another film... I don't know how I'd return, but he wants me back." In a recent interview with tentative script writer Michael T. Kennedy, he stated that most of the old characters, including Sidney Prescott, have been written into the script, and that it is the last film to feature the original cast.
On December 13th 2008, Michael T. Kennedy confirmed that his manager is still awaiting a response from the Weinsteins regarding whether or not they will use his script - all that is known at present is that they are still looking over the material."
HorrorMovies.ca also say that Wes Craven has said that he's talked with Neve Campbell about a fourth film, and that he'd like to do another one with the Weinstein's. So does this all say it's on?
Certainly looks like we're going for a fourth Scream film, but with a restart of the franchise, are we just going to see everything start all over again with the original characters? I doubt that. I think what we're in store for is the old crew being involved in a new round of murders which are mirroring the Scream set-up, possibly focused on someone new and involving Sidney in some way, and this will be the "handover" film for the series.
Is that something that would interest you? Personally I think the Scream series is done

It also seems that the site has been updated and both Kennedy & Williamson are writing. Apparently Williamson has an idea

An interview from MTV Spoilers previews in which Craven talks about House on the left, his new film 25/8, Scream 4 and the Freddy Reboot.

He states so himself that it's Michael T Kennedy, writing the treatment and script. He also stated that they are hoping to get Williamson back on the team, since he believes that Scream is dead and done.
Also Craven stated that he will only direct if the script is good and also upon the conditions of his contract as a director status as for he had many complications and arguments with the company producing as he did when he was directing Cursed with them.

IMDB majority of the time is sometimes inaccurate, it depends when the page that the user is searching is updated.

Michael T Kennedy was confirmed as the treatment writer and screenwriter of the next Scream installment.
It's possible that Williamson will participate and provide some sought of direction as a co-writer.

I've also read the treatment by Kennedy, the opening is spectacular, but if it can maintain that element and style throughtout the majority of the film then we got a definiate big horror movie on the way, considering the treatment is only a first draft.
And yes Syndey is in it, so i can't see these guys replacing Neve Campbell from that role.

And another thing, as far as i can remember there are only three of the original characters left. Which means that they will have to enlist a few other people to slice up.
Also can't imagine that Sydney Prescott would have many friends, If someone i knew had a history in which their previous friends were all sliced up hung from trees killed by garage doors threw off balconies etc i would stay the hell away from that beeeaaaattttcccchhhh!!!!!!!!

This boils down to two things

    1. Are they actually interested in the story and genuinely think they have something to bring to the story that will credit it??

    2. Or are they just using the opportunity to make a few millions.

    Time will tell

I'm a die-hard scream fan. You'd be surprised how big and loyal a fanbase this franchise has. We've just been in denial because of the wrap up of Scream 3 and the "Freddy VS Jason" type of developmental hell that this 4th installment has/is/will sit through.

    - Jow

PS: J.A. Ottley - Not trying to be an ass, but what makes you so well "in the know"? The sheer fact that you're showboating a status that isn't confirmed on IMDB makes me have a lot of doubt my man.

Oh yes. Scream 4 come on baby. Man, the trailer to the last house on the left looks weak. If Williamson's still writing it's going to be great.

  22. J.A.Ottley.Writer / Director

Jeez why is this sh*t always incorrect.

Get it right, it's Michael T Kennedy writing the script not bloody Kevin Williamson. Maybe his collaborating in the redrafts or he created the story.
But it still stands that Michael T. Kennedy is attached to write the script, for this cast of fresh blood.

The sequel is currently in a writing stage, and set to revitilise the franchise by apparently handing it over to a new cast but still keeping some of the old cast but creating from a new.
The theme and main concept for this Scream is Remakes within the horror films.

Bloody-Disgusting need to get their info correct.

Also Craven whom has read the treatment has stated that
'The beginning is brilliant, very similiar to that of Scream but in a Saw-kind of style.
The rest can be better, but so far so good, not bad for a first draft treatment though.'

I don't know why they are making another one for this franchise. Is anyone still interested in this storyline? I never hear people talk about the "scream" days lol. At least they have a good director on board. So forrestgump1 and killerman are the only people I've seen who are in love with Scream. I'm not saying it's bad, just kinda I dunno, there's no point of making another one other than to make a quick buck.

It could go to wards being a Craven directed Williamson written hit that breathes new life in to the series OR it could be a God forsaken PG-13 sequel starring Meghan Good.
