Warner Bros. has taken a different approach to the video game tie-in for their upcoming release Watchmen. According to Variety, the studio's Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will release two downloadable games, with the first coinciding with the theatrical release next March and the second around the DVD launch.

WBIE execs said that by producing shorter downloadable games, rather than a full-priced disc version, they'll have more flexibility to produce high-quality titles on a tight production schedule of just more than a year. If they game episodes catch on, more installments should follow.

Watchmen, which is being made by Danish developer Deadline Games, will feature the film's characters Rorschach and Nite Owl in an action title that's likely to earn an M rating. It will be available to download on PCs, Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360.

Watchmen is based on the 12-part DC Comics series written by Alan Moore and featuring art by Dave Gibbons. You can catch it in the theaters March 6.

Watchmen was released March 6th, 2009 and stars Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Patrick Wilson, Carla Gugino, Matt Frewer. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.
