When it premiered in December of 2009, Jersey Shore was picketed by the Italian American community, who called the show offensive and inaccurate. Now, Buckwild is drawing the same kind of controversy and ire from the Appalachian community, who have dubbed the show "The Jersey Shore of Appalachia" and "Hillbillies Gone Wild".
West Virginian Senator (D) Joe Manchin sent the following plea to MTV.
"[Please] put a stop to the travesty called Buckwild...Instead of showcasing the beauty of our people and our state, you preyed on young people, coaxed them into displaying shameful behavior, and now you are profiting from it. That is just wrong."
MTV is staying quite about this controversy, though they are not marketing the show as a reality series, instead calling it an "authentic comedy", with each episode working from a script. Buckwild is taking over Jersey Shore's Thursday, 10 pm time slot starting January 3rd.

Buckwild premiers January 3rd, 2013, only on MTV.

Yo!MTV Raps, Headbangers Ball, Beavis and Buttead, The Maxx, and The Real World (pre-Las Vegas, which turned the show from an actually interesting social experiment to an atrocious "can you top this bad behavior?" television show). That was Music TeleVison. Now it's just Moronic TeleVision.

@dan1 ...Thats why i wish i had the money to buy MTV and just have it go back to music videos and music news at the top of the hour and so people dont get bored watching the same videos over an over again as the radio these days play the same damn songs in a loop, id create different MTV channels for genres, for example MTV Rock, MTV Hip Hop, MTV RnB, etc. Video requests would be back as well as each channel on certain days playing videos from certain decades in music :]

Mtv went from being the voice of generation to an embarrsment. If you don't wanna do music programs anymore then change your name

Can we go back to the days of Music Television having music? When do people tire of watching teenagers/young 20 somethings act like brainless, stereotypical morons/tramps?
Also, f*ck you to the people who say it's trash and watch it anyways. You're just as much a part of the problem as the problem itself. Hypocrites. F*ck your excuses as to why you watch this garbage, too.
