@mattbierwagen, that's great, man! I play bass and learned a little acoustic myself, but I've always been one to appreciate music more than the guy whose trying to actually make it. That's where you lot come in. :P I honestly hope you get in, man. Lord knows we could use more composers out there.

@narrator I don't mind at all. I play several instruments, sing, and I do tech support a lot, but mostly I'm a composer. Film scoring is my dream job :D

    That's a bummer, @mattbierwagen.

If you don't mind me asking, what type of instrument do you play? Or are you more of a vocalist or technical support guy? And yeah, man, we've missed you and your reviews on here. Too many people are dropping off the site slowly and carefully and before we know it, we're in a metaphorical room full of strangers. Lol.

@narrator ya sorry ive been gone so much, im here and there. but mostly ive been busy applying and auditioning to music schools. Hopefully soon, that process will be over and ill have my weekends and some of my weekdays back... maybe ill even finish a review for the first time in a year!

Disney is now trying to bring in adolescent viewers as opposed to the whole family or just kids. One thing I would have done marketing wise was send copies of kid version stories of Princes of Mars to schools, spark up their interest and stuff.

@zanyzap, mmm. I agree, though personally, it just depends on what they're showing in the prologue and how it might affect my enjoyment of the overall picture. Films should be judged on their actual content, not necessarily their marketing strategies. That's all the studios crap... and is that Don Cheadle in a dress?

@youngrizo, haha. You remember me. Good to see you as well. and these guys are by far more logical than me, I just happened to be passively positive/neutral in this situation. I'm on the fence about John Carter, not for lack of interest, because I definitely want to see it for several reasons (Andrew Stanton's live action debut, Lynn Collins is hot, it's sci-fi adventure, etc), but I don't know if I like Kitsch as the lead. From what I've seen so far, I guess he's not what I picture, or who I pictured when I thought of John Carter. Hopefully the film itself will be solid when I see it this weekend.

@narrator I knew someone would call that out. Didn't care. Still wrote it. I don't think releasing a ten minute prologue is a bad move.

@moviegeek, both TDK and TDKR released the first 7 or 8 minutes of film six months or longer prior to their release. So yeah, not much of a point there, no offense bro.

@mattbierwagen, agreed. And where have you been, bro? Haven't seen you around in a while.

@zanyzap Yes they do. Speed Racer comes to mind...

All I'm saying, good business decision or not, this is a cry of desperation. There's nothing wrong with that. If a movie isn't tracking well, it isn't tracking well. All the good reviews in the world won't change that.

I might end up being pleasantly surprised and the movie does look quite entertaining. @youngrizo

@dan1 Yes, me too. Glad to know this movie won't try and take itself too seriously and will have a lot of fun, comedic elements.

@thedude-abides Because whether or not their changes to the story and characters are good or bad, you'll still get to see a magnificent recreation of the world that ERB created 100 years ago. Everything @corey says is true.

@the-kwisatz-haderach Princess of Mars was actually published in 1912, so it literally has been 100 years.

@youngrizo 's point about Disney's marketing ploys makes a lot of sense. 8 of 10 people still have no idea what The Martian Tales of Edgar Rice Burroughs are. I'm not personally going to watch these clips, but if I hadn't heard about the movie before, these clips might play as the deciding factor of my seeing the movie. Now, I'm not saying this movie will be good; I worry about that every second of every day, but Disney's poor marketing hasn't done anything to make me draw conclusions about the overall quality of this film. Everything Disney has done, aside from perhaps not making a Burger King toy line, has made perfect sense.

@thedude-abides The only thing I'm worried about is the release date. Its far too early for epic blockbusters so I worry this won't be as epic as it deserves to be. Even still, this is my first big anticipation of the year. I've read half of JC Of Mars and it is excellent. I only hope the same for the film.

Granted I haven't watched the preview yet, because I currently don't have ten minutes to blow, but I am still looking forward to the release.

@moviegeek A lot of movies release extended trailers, clips and even intros.

  28. Corey W.

@thedude-abides Hey now, while the movie may not turn out that great, it means EVERYTHING that this is the story that influenced Star Wars. In fact, this is the main reason why I'm still holding curiosity toward this film as well as many others.

    1 year agoby @coreyFlag

  29. thedude-abides

@2movieguys Isn't denying its influence on Star Wars or the sci-fi genre; he's simply saying that putting THE MOVIE, not the source material, in the same breath as Star Wars is no light comparison.

Again people are harping back to the source material. For the hundredth time, the source material is not the movie. I could care less if the novels influenced Star Wars. That's got nothing to do with anything.

As for the film itself, I don't need to sit through a 10-minute trailer to know it's gonna suck. I agree with @moviegeek; this move screams desperation just days prior to the film's release.

@youngrizo Nice point. Anybody that knows anything about science fiction genre knows the Barsoom/John Carter novels. They influenced everything from Star Wars to Avatar.
