Was Quentin Tarantino Originally Set to Direct Green Lantern?
Tarantino told MTV, "I was offered the Green Lantern. Not since it's been a script, but just like, 'Hey we own the Green Lantern.' Would you like it?' There's a little part of me that's like, 'Wow, if I was in my 20s, this would be the genre I'd want to specialize in.' But they weren't making them then, or at least not the right ones. But there also is an aspect where I've kind of outgrown that a little bit."
He concluded by saying that if he ever did decide to do a superhero film, "It wouldn't be an existing comic book character. I'm a writer. I'd want to use my imagination and not have to fight with geeks' memories of how this character should be and, 'Oh, I cast an actor as opposed to a bodybuilder' or it's not as good as the way Neal Adams drew him.' If I were to do something like that, I would want the fun of coming up with the superhero myself."
Director Martin Campbell is now in charge of directing Green Lantern. The film will finally see the light of day when it hits theaters on June 17th of 2011.
Inglourious Basterds was released August 21st, 2009 and stars Brad Pitt, Mélanie Laurent, Christoph Waltz, Eli Roth, Michael Fassbender, Diane Kruger, Daniel Brühl, Til Schweiger. The film is directed by Quentin Tarantino.
Green Lantern was released June 17th, 2011 and stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Temuera Morrison, Jenna Craig, Jon Tenney, Mike Doyle. The film is directed by Martin Campbell.

I wonder what Superhero movies he'd steal scenes from in order to make it? I would bank on Green Lantern having The Good the Bad and the Ugly soundtrack on there too. Tarantino is a good director who makes fun throwbacks to other films but Green Lantern doesn't seem like a fit for him

Lol Fratson. That is a terribly powerful thought.

he needs to leave, a terrible director and a lousy actor.

Also, if you ask me I'd say Kill Bill was somewhat like a superhero movie.

Glad he passed, doesn't seem like his kind of thing. But I agree with Newkill, Watchmen by Tarantino would have been kind of interesting.

I agree with Comrade, who cares? Why did they tell us this NOW? Is this news worthy? Seems more like a let down to diehard Quetin fans lol if anything. In way, I'm glad cause the movie would be really weird, then again, it'd probably break the mold of generic superhero movie formula that we are used to. Let's face it, we know what's gonna happen, there is always like 1 main villian in the first film, then 2 villians in the sequel lol. It's predictable, Quentin would totally either rape what the hero was in a bad way, or make it so different in a good way that it's a huge hit. And are people speaking of this whole "superhero" genre in as if it's not as good as something else? There are a few superhero films that are better than most "other" genres so why is there anyone talking down to this "genre"? As if you or Quentin are TOO good for a superhero movie? Haha what a joke.

Yeah, Fallen i think this is just to boost this guys ego. Have you seen his interview at comic con? He thinks to highly of himself like he's the greatest director ever.

The Narrator: The Better Man
This is a bit pointless except to boost his ego and see how people respond, maybe if they respond saying he should do it, then he'll make his own hero, or if not, then he'll stick to what he does best. Its smart in a way, getting fan feedback. But this has nothing to do with GL pretty much.

Taratino did Death Proof not Planet Terror. Rodriguez did Planet Terror.

The closest thing to this sort of thing that Tarantino has done would be Planet Terror, and albeit that movie was stupendous, Tarantino just would not be the guy to do this kind of thing.
Granted I'm sure Green Lantern would be given copious amounts of one liners and epic monologues.

that's the biggest problem with Tarantino he never ventures out and does something else. He does the same genre type movies.

Also, Iamthatguy, to say Tarantino is above superhero movies, your also saying that he's above Nolan which is preposterous.

This guy says he doesn't want to fight with geeks but he actually is, film geeks. The movies he steals from to make his so called original movies are held dear to film geeks that don't like the fact that he takes from those movies.

Would have been interesting, but I'd rather Tarantino stick to his format, ala Inglorious Basterds. Seriously, the last thing the world needs right now is more comic book adaptations. What we need is guys like Tarantino creating more original content. Glad this didn't happen.

weird choice, but it's kind of snubby for Tarantino to say that he's grown out of that genre. He could bring a lot into that genre, but oh well, if he wants to continue doing the same sh*t, then that's okay.
