Warner Bros. to Utilize BitTorrent Technology

In a sign of how downloading is fast becoming a viable home video delivery option, one of the largest studios in the world embraces BitTorrent technology.

In a story from Home Media Retailing, "Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group has inked a deal with file-trading service BitTorrent Inc. for online delivery of motion picture and television content in the United States."

Warner Bros. is the first major studio "to provide legal video content through BitTorrent."

This deal comes after BitTorrent signed an agreement "with the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) to prevent film piracy and promote innovation in online digital distribution of content."

BitTorrent operates by breaking large files down into tinier files which makes the delivery of content faster.

The deal with Warner Bros. is expected to commence this summer with more than 200 titles "new releases, catalog favorites and television series" to be offered.

Some of the movies include Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Tim Burton's Corpse Bride and Babylon 5 among others.
