Back in February we reported that U.K.-based Ecosse Films was adapting a new version of a famed Robert Louis Stevenson novel Treasure Island and now it seems that project has found a new competitor on the high seas. Pajiba is reporting that Sherlock Holmes producer Lionel Wigram is developing a competing Treasure Island project at Warner Bros.
Warner Bros. seeks the map to Treasure Island
Wigram has a history of getting out in front of competitors, as he readied Sherlock Holmes quicker than a competing Holmes film, which was to star Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen and he is also producing The Three Musketeers with Doug Liman directing, which seems to be ahead of the competing Summit Entertainment The Three Musketeers that Paul W.S. Anderson is directing.
Wigram's Treasure Island seems to be ahead of the Ecosse Films project as well, with Wigram's project having a completed script for over a month now, from writer Michael Gilio, while Niall Johnson (White Noise) is presumably still working on the script for the Ecosse project. It was said that Warner is keeping a tight lid on Gilio's story as of now.
We'll be sure to keep you posted on any new developments on both of these competing projects as soon as we have more information.
