Warner Bros. Sets Green Lantern Release Date

It seems Warner Bros. has been busy rearranging their calendar as of late. ERC Box Office is reporting that Warner has announced a slew of release dates, most notably a December 17, 2010 release date for Green Lantern. The site is also reporting that, while the title character hasn't been cast, the studio is eyeing up Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) to direct the superhero film.

The studio also announced a July 15, 2011 release date for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II, which is the same date already chosen by Marvel for The Avengers. Warner Bros. also moved Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes to Christmas Day 2009, from an originally-planned November 13 release.

Other release dates set were Louis Leterrier's Clash of the Titans on March 26, 2010, Christopher Nolan's Inception on July 16, 2010, Jonah Hex on August 6, 2010 and Zack Snyder's recently-announced Sucker Punch on October 8, 2010.

Green Lantern was released June 17th, 2011 and stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Temuera Morrison, Jenna Craig, Jon Tenney, Mike Doyle. The film is directed by Martin Campbell.

If this succeeds in the box office, then they will be DEFINITELY doing a sequel. No superhero movie goes untouched without a sequel.

I'll have to see a trailer first to decide if I will see this one or not. Probably not though, because I never read any of the comics, and know next to nothing about the character.

lmao WOW. I JUST looked at the GL release date and it's not even a summer release...not until December? Maybe if it's successful a sequel will get a summer release. It's not surprising, though. Campbell's Casino Royale opened in November

I'm going for The Avengers and Nolan's Inception, but I think the release date for The Avengers might get pushed back, which is fine with me. I look forward to the others, except Potter.

... Well, me personally, I'd see the midnight showing of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II." I know some would say different.... But I hadn't realized that was what they were arguing about. Sounded like they were wondering who would choose "Harry Potter" over "The Avengers," when clearly, there's no problem seeing both. lmfao.

Nah not months, either a week speration for one of the films to knock each other off, orrrrr, a 2 week seperation between the 2, so once everyone has finished seeing HP 7 Pt.2.
Then July 29th or 28th, The Avengers blasts in the cinemas for to dominate the cinemas once again. Thus giving everyone a chance to see both.

I know nothing of the series, but from what I've read, it sounds awesome. Ryan Gosling sounds great, Comrade.

And yes Vamp; I'll definitely see them both opening day!
HP has priority, but I'm sure one or both will be bumped to the Wednesday before the fifteenth.

WTF, MW deleted one of my comments... I didn't say anything wrong in it!! Now they're jsut f*cking trigger happy.

I think people grow out of dressing like the Avengers after a while (or not, in the case of some of the virgins) but sadly, there are adults who haven't read anything but children's escapist fantasy (Harry Potter, Twilight) for the bulk of their lives.
I agree though, Marvel should pump it out a week later to have a go at knocking Harry Potter off the chart.

I read the Harry Potter books, and I've read the Avengers for a long time, and I guess I feel that the Avengers first live action outing is more important than some lanky English wizard's last.

If Harry Potter comes out on the same date as the avengers movie Harry Potter will win because it will be the last film of the series. Then Harry Potter has a huge fan base that includes males, females of all ages. The avengers will mostly get the adult and teenage crowd that will consist mostly of males. It will be interesting though to see the lines for both of these movie with hogwart dressed people staring down avengers dressed people lol

Well it's about time they got their game on. Geez! And AGAIN! ANOTHER reason, 3 MORE REASONS why 2010 is going to rock! I'll be seeing so many movies I'll have to claim bankruptcy! :P

  23. Chad Vital

If they were smart, they should release The Avengers a month after Harry Potter, cause by that time everyone will have watched HP, and will want to see the next big thing and what do ya know, there's the Avengers film being released. They would have 2 months of box office dominance lol. Damn I'm good, hey WB if you need an idea man, hire me haha, jm :P

Lot of good WB movies coming out that's for sure. Clash of the Titans haha hell yeah!

Btw escapist, as much as I'd love to see an Avengers movie, Harry Potter is one of thee most profitting movie franchises to date. So with that being said, yeah they will work AROUND the cash cow lol.
