The NeverEnding Story
According to The Hollywood Reporter ,Warner Bros. will be redoing the fantasy film The NeverEnding Story.

The studio picked up the rights to the film and are all set to get started on the remake.

Based on a German-language novel by Michael Ende, the film follows Bastian Balthazar Bux "who discovers a parallel world in a book titled The NeverEnding Story."

The new film will look at some aspects of the film that weren't really highlighted in the original. That film was directed by Wolfgang Petersen.

All is forgiven LEO, we can all get a little carried away sometimes. And yeah, I'm all for Stiller being a new recruit, he'd make a great addition to the ghostbusters fam. His humor is a perfect match for the Ghostbusters.

well the remake debate rages on here as well(see total recall) I have to admit, that i think that this def could be remade, with better special effects now and stuff and its been a long time too. I loved this movie as a kid but given the chance i would remake it too!

Ben Stiller was rumored 6 years ago. No joke. I remember reading about it in a magazine. They also rumored that Will Smith would be a Ghostbuster as well. Personally, I think those two would be better than the Apatow team. I like their films, but they just don't seem right to be GB. They don't fit. GB is still kinda kiddy. Apatow team's movies are all R based. Not that I mind that, but I don't see these guys being funny when they have to dumb down their dialogue to keep the rating, and the movie would suffer cause these guys are funny because of the R-ness. They would be awkward not swearing or saying something perverted.

In respons to Raoul: Yes, I am sorry to now to say those blasphemous words. I am sorry. I think I lost my cool back there.

And to Kranendonk: Actually, no they're not. Yet. Hopefully never. Right now the plans for Ghostbusters is the videogame coming out for Xbox360 and PS3 that will be based on the two movies, and a Wii game that will be set after the 2nd. And right now Ivan Reitman and Dan Akroyd are writing the script for the third, which will take place after the wii game, but they're writing it so that you don't necessarily HAVE to play the game to understand what's happening. The third movie will make references to the game, but the game is not essential.

And while I'm on that note, Dan Akroyd is thinking of casting Ben Stiller as "the new recruit." I don't know how I feel about that. he could pull it off, I guess. Is he "Ghostbusters" material?

The Neverending Story is a classic. One of my absolute favorites. I've been dreading this day, but now that its here, I'm not so sure its all that bad of an idea. A straight remake of the 80's film would just be absolutely disrespectful. In no way can they remake the magic of that first film and they would be morons to try. If however, they choose to adapt more of the novel(the other half) then this could turn out to be visually one of the best fantasies ever. There are so many scenes from the book that I would love to see done with todays technology. How they are going to replace the actors though is beyond me. They need to go with the no-namers like they did before. If I see Zac Efron is playing Atreyu of f*cking Dakota Fanning as The Empress, I'm gonna f*cking raid Hollywood and burn it to the f*cking ground. This is a true story, and to corrupt it with all that hollywood garbage would just be insulting. Honestly, if they are going to be going by the book then this should probably be 2 movies. I'll admit, the first movie is SOOOOOO far away from the actual material its insane. The first movie is only half the novel, but anyone who has seen it, knows it works. If this is to be a new adaptation of a great fantasy novel, thats fine with me, go ahead, but if they are remaking this exactly as how the first one was, like I said, sh*ts going down.

And dont even joke about such things LEO, a Labyrinth remake may be the undoing of existence.

I'm like you Comrade i encountered the book first, specatcularly written and very grand, beautiful story on an epic scale.
But i still love the film lol, i still remmeber the theme song and all the great characters from this film.
But it doesn't state in the article that they will be using more of the book it just references that the original source materail was a book.
The aspects that were left out, could be things that were written out of the original because they never had the technology to do it.

And if Wolfgang Petersen is doing this does that mean he ain't doing Ender's Game any more, because he is attached to the film adaptation?

As many fond memories as people might have of the film, I encountered the book first. It is a grand and beautiful story, and I decided to check out the film. It was awful. Some of the worst 80's kitschy crap I've ever seen.

I personally am happy to hear that they are taking on more of the book, because it really is a huge, dense story full of wonderful characters and scenes. People shouldn't think of this as a remake any more than TIH was a remake of Hulk. They were separate approaches to the same character. One failed, one succeeded. Since the 80's NES 3pic failed, I hope this one is good, for the sake of the book.

Oh ye gods, that's it. I have a message for hollywood:

"Hey Hollywood! While you're at it, how about you remake Ghostbusters?! No? How about Terminator?! NO?! How about Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, OR EVEN STAR WARS?!?! NO?! Well why not?! You're remaking everything else!!! You're only going to remake these movie anyway! SO WHY DON'T YOU START NOW?!?! WHAT IN THE BLOODY FURY OF THE ABYSMAL NINTH RING OF HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!?! WHY IS IT SO HARD FOR YOU MINDLESS, HALF-BRAINED, BLUNDERING GALOOTS TO CREATE AN ORIGINAL STORY?!?! ARE YOU REALLY THAT PATHETIC?!"

Okay, now that I've gotten my bullocks wound up, I think I will find an inanimate object to be on the recieving end of my fury.

I think a remake will be good. Digital technology has increased drastically since. It will also be good if they are adding to it. They could definitely redo all this and turn it into a good franchise. I have all of the movies, including the cheesy one with Jack Black as the bad guy.

ahh my childhood is revived once again. GB 3, Tranformers, GI Joe, and now a remake of this? Could be cool. Better have good actors and not be so kiddy that I feel like a toddler when I watch it.
