Warner Bros. has picked up film rights to Dan Krokos' young adult novel The Planet Thieves. The book is being published by Tor/Macmillan next may.

The novel follows the SS Egypt, which gets attacked by a group of aggressive aliens that steal some sensitive technology that could bring the demise of earth. The story centers Mason Stark, a young space cadet that leads the attack against a group of aliens that stole technology. Heyday Films and Benderspink are producing alongside Pouya Shahbazian.

The author also wrote False Memory, which was published last month by Disney Hyperion.

No casting details or production schedule have been released.

I'm thumbing it up for the sci-fi and for the subject. Today in Production I we talked about how producers acquire rights to novels in particular and I gotto read some seriously awesome legitimate contracts with detailed descriptions. Point being, it was a good day in class so there you go :D
