Warner Bros. Bails Out on Masters of the Universe

In a story from Variety, Warner Bros. and Mattel will not be teaming up to make Masters of the Universe. The film is planned to be a live-action reinvention of the Mattel toy line. Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver have been working on this project since 2007.

Apparently, Mattel and Warner Bros. fell out over the direction of the project and decided "to let the option lapse this month." In the story, He-Man is a brawny prince who transforms into a warrior who becomes the last hope for a magical land called Eternia, which is being ravaged by technology and the evil Skeletor.

Mattel is now looking to set the property up at another studio. The plan is for director John Stevenson (Kung Fu Panda) to remain attached to the project. Silver will not be involved as he is exclusive to Warner Bros.

Masters of the Universe is in development .

Universal Soldier was Dolph Lundgren best film, and why is it so hard for anybody to find THE POWER for this film to get off the ground?

Stupid people think they can get away with sh*t. And as of right now, they can, so they will continue to do it til they get banned.

Yes, I realize there is a fake. Though I was trying to get them out into the open, not you. If you stopped hindering me, I would have found out, though I have been cheeking each time I see your name.
Some do lead me back to you, but do you realize there is more than one copy cat impersonating you. You've got enemy's and I'm sure you know.
I've been trying to help clear your name, the main reason I need to is because I care enough to help. No I don't want pity, truly I'm just trying to help, not enough people care in this cursed world we live in.

It would be better as a dark epic, I sure hope it's good.

Crap. I always wanted this to be a dark epic and mystical movie with clashes of good and evil and all of that. I always wanted Timur Bekmambetov to direct this. Or even Zack Snyder if he wasn't busy with Sucker Punch and other projects. Overall, I have a feeling this will fail its awesome potential.

ENOUGH OF THE GAYNESS. SO SHUT THE F*CK UP.

First of all, this film may or may not be good but lets wait to find out.

Now newkill we know your gay, straight men don't walk down the street half naked or fully, nor do bi sexual men or women. Unless they are f*cked in the head. Do you see us in parades, no you don't and you want to know why at least we embrace the law.
I really don't care about gay bars or clubs, if you want to do it somewhere then do it at home where no one can see.
I don't care if your gay or not, your not suppose to flaunt it. So keep your clothes on, and talk normally, talk to your boy friend in a dirty way. Just leave us alone.

Mattel just wants to market themselves in film, cant blame them for atleast trying....they do make a sh*t load more money then Hasbro does in regards to toys, especially as they own FisherPrice.

Dora and Diego, Elmo, Power Wheels, Barbie and Hot wheels will always be huge in North America. Mattel has no products of their own that can be made into a major film, so they attach their name to films such as Avatar to make the toys to get them affiliated to Hollywood

this is a movie i totally want to see made! the Dolph Lundgren version was awful! i'd love to see an origins storyline, then even move into the She-Ra storyline in sequels. possibilities are endless IF they get the feel of the first one right.

  17. T.Clark

Well, actually, it could go two routes: G.I. Joe-like or LotR-like. Stevenson will most likely aim for a G.I. Joe feel.

The last thing this movie needs to be is kid friendly, but with John Stevenson directing, that's probably what it'll end up being.

Wasn't this being called "Grayskull?" I like MotU better, but I thought they weren't calling it that.

Mattel is obviously looking for their own Transformers/GI Joe sized toy movie and they probably weren't getting a kid friendly version from WB.

If Mattel didn't want to work with WB anymore, it could be that the studio wanted too many things changed (i.e. f*cking up) the original concepts.
This prooves that WB is no better than Fox or any other studios: when they want to f*ck up, they're all great.
Indeed I'm one of those guys who found TDK a pretty f*cked up version of the Batman universe. More serious than Batman Forever & Robin, but still f*cked up.
