Warner Bros. Acquires Rights to Midway Games

Warner Bros. has nabbed most of Midway Games' assets in bankruptcy court for a cool $33 million, which includes studio rights to "Mortal Kombat," "Spy Hunter," "Joust" and several other game franchises, according to Variety.

A Delaware bankruptcy court judge authorized the deal last week, saying that the objections to the transaction had been resolved.

Midway filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this year. Sumner Redstone had sold his 87% stake to Mark E. Thomas last year for only $100,000 along with the assumption of $70 million of Midway debt.

Midway's creditors agreed last month to give Thomas a $5 million payment.

Warner declined to comment on its plans for Midway. And it opted not to buy two Midway development studios in San Diego and Newcastle, England.

So WB games or movie rights? I'd like to see WB do their version of a Mortal Kombat movie. Could be cool.

didnt they already make a 'spy hunter' movie with the rock? wtf ever happened to that??
if they DO make a new SH, they need to give it to michael bay. with his knack for directing high speed chase scenes, it would be awesome.
and i'm all for a MK reboot. only if its written better, has better actors, and has real fight scenes with fatalities. and no comedy. when they try to make movies funny they totally lose sight of what it is that they're making. although cary tagawa as shang sung was classic.
i really dont see a JOUST movie happening. i mean, really?

Fantastic,i hope it gets a better reboot of MK and i both agree that James Mcteigue and Yuen woo Ping should do the chreography.

The draft is on paper. I decided to write it within my spare time in college., manage to print it out before they deleted out college account :(

But as soon as i've done the redraft, which will now be a lot easier due to hvaing about 40 pages of research, but hard to find info on the Lin Kuei, i will definately email it to you :)

I agree on James Mcteigue directing and chreography by Yuen Woo Ping

I nead to read that DRAFT J.A, i'm sure it's good, anything is good than that sh*t Mortal Kombat films before, although i heard drew mcsweeney is writing a draft. To direct MK i would get James Mcteigue the guy is brillaint with visuals.

Interesting that means either a MK reboot is possibly, on the way or maybe the third in the trilogy will fly out of production hell and straight into production and who knows hopefully soon we will see Mortal Kombat Devestation, on screens soon.
MK can be done really good with the right amount of research on it and of course the right story.
Still remember the MK SCRIPT i wrote ages ago based on the Lin Kuei, i think that needs a duly redraft :)

Well Spyhunter is no surprise, considering Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, is attached to it and it will be based on the most recent game installment SPYHUNTER: NOWHERE TO RUN (i think that's the full title).
There is also rumours that John Woo was attached to direct Spyhunter, so that i'll definately be looking forward to, if its a John Woo film.

    Joust = No comment

Asteroid = Deep Impact & Armageddon remake looool

i have to say i agree with lock and stock on the fact they really have not made too many decent video game films (except the original street fighter for its time [new one sucked]). i also appreciate what warner bros. makes most of the time. I've heard of rumors for mortal kombat 3 before they went bankrupt. I'm just hoping if they make a new one, that it will hopefully be atleast a 3 1/2 star film. i also agree with mikehd on special effects.

the problem with video game adaptations as films is that no one has made a solid one yet. that was the consensous with comic book adaptations too... now we have several solid movies that are transforming the movie industry. it'll happen for video game adaptations, too. i agree with the bulk of the comments in here about WB... if any studio is capable, they are. they could totally make MK a lucrative franchise!

I think WB were perfectionists BEFORE TDK, kingbrady :P

They sucked in the 90's though. Matrix and HP saved them.

A rated R MK movie would be great but lets just hope for a better pg-13 version. I still love the first MK movie but the second, that is an abomination to movies everywhere.

Warner Bros are perfectionist now, ever since The dark Knight's success, and the fact the arent happy about Superman's delay, Mortal Kombat should be nice
