War Horse Trailer

DreamWorks Pictures has released the first trailer for Steven Spielberg's upcoming adaptation of War Horse, which hits theaters on December 28. Click on the video player below for your first look at this upcoming drama, which is based on Michael Morpurgo's novel.

Set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War, War Horse begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets-British cavalry, German soldiers, and a French farmer and his granddaughter-before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man's Land.

War Horse is based on a children's fiction novel by Michael Morpurgo, first published in 1982, and the 2007 stage adaptation of the same name.

War Horse was released December 25th, 2011 and stars Emily Watson, Toby Kebbell, Benedict Cumberbatch, David Thewlis, Tom Hiddleston, Eddie Marsan, David Kross, Peter Mullan. The film is directed by Steven Spielberg.

@diaigma Weren't A Christmas Carol and The Polar Express considered for Best Animated Film?

@moviegeek - true. People are already screaming that Tintin will be the animated Oscar winner next year. Joke's on them. Motion Capture is NOT animation (unless the Academy decides to change its rules to include MC). It also has the Zemeckis reputation to work against. Tintin, a tough sale indeed, but I heard the budget is quite decent for what they're trying to do. 130 M. War Horse will be the good drama side of Spielberg. Tintin will be the straight up fun and adventure side :)

@diaigma But this is an artsy film. People view it as an interpretive Oscar-y film. TinTin is going to be viewed as a popcorn film, and (worse) a kids movie. now THAT is a tough sell.

@diaigma Team twilight? idk :P Tintin is a really tough sell though. I mean, how do you explain a story so character-driven in just a 2, 3minute trailer enough to entice people to go? I'm anxious hehe.

@diaigma Even though I would normally guess Captain America for the next trailer just because it's also a Paramount release, I actually think we'll see it with Harry Potter. It's a huge IMAX release and at least a lot of people in those theaters will have opened a book in their life ;) lol, lame reason there, but I think we'll see a new one with HP.

Man, seeing this trailer got me all worked up! Good to see the old Spielberg will be back in action!!! I knew, from the moment Spielberg announced he would direct, that this was going to be something special.......and as far as I'm concerned, this trailer proves it. Looks absolutely fantastic. THIS is going to remind people of that reason why we go to movies, something that seems to be a dying art in cinema these days......TO FEEL SOMETHING and actually be emotionally moved by the time you leave.

Very, VERY excited to see this!

about to be in the minority, but this is not of much interest to me. love War flicks. love spielberg. love the cinematography, look and feel of this movie. but movies about animals don't excite me. marley and me was great (though i didn't really want to see it), but that's because it focused so much on the marriage and relationship of the couple. this seems a lot like Secretariat and other animal underdog films.

@slysnide - I'm hoping for a trailer with Captain A. Tintin is already a hit overseas. What better way to attract the domestic market than with a patriotic superhero? :P

  21. slysnide

@diaigma: Well that's odd considering that we're 5 months out. Same with "Sherlock 2." The predecessor had its teaser released Memorial Day '09 for a December '09 release. Sh*t I hope they don't pull this crap for the 'TDKR' teaser! :P

  22. Diaigma

@slysnide - yes, but it's a real short teaser that hardly shows much. But I have to tell you, I saw it in 3D. I haven't seen anything that good in 3D. I really did feel like I was in that dark room at the teaser's start. Great use of floating partials in the lighting. I bet Mr. S will do for Motion Capture what Jackson did for Fantasy.

@dan1 - that would be awesome, and strange. Motion Capture is technically not considered animation. It's in a category of its own ;)
