Wanted 2 in the Works

Universal Pictures has secured Wanted producer Marc Platt for five years, keeping Marc Platt Prods. on the lot through late 2012, according to Variety.

The deal comes as Platt begins work on Wanted 2 with director Timur Bekmambetov and writers Michael Brandt and Derek Haas.

In Wanted 2, Platt acknowledged that the creative team is still working on the challenge of continuing the story after most of the principal characters -- including Angelina Jolie -- ended the original in no position for an encore. But the film was designed as a potential franchise, Langley said, and it is still performing strongly after grossing $192.6 million worldwide. The intention is to get James McAvoy back into gunslinging mode.

"The writers are at work already, and those creative discussions are taking place," said Platt, who is producing once again with Jim Lemley.

That duo also is teamed with Bekmambetov on a Universal adaptation of the Christian Gossett sci-fi graphic novel The Red Star, which has a script draft by Matthew Sand.

No production date has been set.

    Watchman (or VISIONARY, I don't really care), chill the f*ck out. Some of us I'm sure just post what our thoughts are on an article and don't hang on moviebuff's every word like you obviously do. I read the article and just posted what I thought it could be. I'm glad that moviebuff had already had a similar thought before I read the article.     Good idea Moviebuff. Also, about a prequel; I wondered about that idea when I first heard about another Wanted film, with rumours that Jolie might be in it. If not, the only idea to include her beyond being ridiculous would be in the form of flashbacks. Her not actually being dead, or even a twin, would be so ridiculous as to show no thought at all had gone into this being anything other than a cash cow. In others words, utter sh*t. Then again, she might not come back at all.

    As Movie buff said though, other Fraternity memebers hunting down McAvoy's character for vengeance should be fast-paced and exciting.

    Thank you Visionary... I was wondering if anybody had even read my comment. There were like 4 comments after I wrote how they COULD do it that said " I wonder how this will happen?" or "How can they make a sequel when they kill most everyone off?". Thanks for the backup.

    And Slim93 has a point. They could make a prequel to this. No McAvoy, but they could make a story on how Jolie's character gets enlisted in the Fraternity. I'm sure there are other ideas being brainstormed.

    Its pretty simple. The way I see it... they can easily go in the direction that there are more Fraternity members in this world. They don't have to say that ALL the members were in the room in that climax. Some could have been on missions at the time. Then those other members may try to hunt McAvoy's character down for causing the demise of the Fraternity hierarchy.

    Wanted2 is good news...I hope that the writers and producer can maintain the bravura and adrenalized action of the original. Losing Jolie and Freeman is a loss, but, a good script and inspired casting could deliver another bullseye.
